Just returned from two weeks in Lamaya Resort with my husband, daughter, son in law & 5 month old granddaughter. I would recommend this hotel to anyone it is smaller and more compact than most Egypt hotels, lovely pools which at this time of year are kept at a very pleasant temp. The first rooms we were placed in had an awful smell but we were moved to even nicer rooms when we complained. The staff could not do enough for us, they were always smiling, joking, remembered our names. The hotel was very clean, the gardens beautifully kept and staff took pride in their work, especially the guest rooms. Every day we returned to find a beautifully made design of swans or flowers made from towels on the bed. We will return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms 2148 and 2150 were large family rooms near pools and beach

We went to this hotel in November 2012, there were 2 couples with 3 divers. One of our group was taken ill whilst there (existing condition, not connectaed with hotel), the attention given by the doctor and nurses was exemplary, we all agreed that it was better then he would have received under the NHS in England, thanks guys.

We all found the hotel of a standard to match its 4/5 star rating, the rooms were very pleasant and cleaned daily by our room steward, he left us some very imaginative towel sculptures and on request left us plenty of coffee and tea, milk etc.

We wopuld especially like to thank some of the staff - Hassan in the beach bar and Waleed in the pool bar - for their friendship plus all the other waiters in the bars and dining room who made our holiday so memorable,

We have been going to Egypt since 1996 on liveaboard diving trips and in hotels so feel that we are qualified to comment that this was the most friendly hotel that we have been to,

As far as the diving was concerned, the reefs are in very good condition and I would urge the hotel and local administration to keep on looking after the reef as they are doing - well done.

We have just returned from a week at the Lamaya having last visited in 2011...and we intend to return again in 2013.

The airport at Marsa Alam is brilliant; within an hour of landing we were in our room at the hotel. Your bags beat you to the carousel. The transfer takes only minutes. Alan the rep had to slow down the coach to give him time to tell us about the resort.

The visa that is provided by Thomson costs £13 a person payable on the coach; but if you go the bank kiosk on your left as you enter arrivals it only costs £10. Every little help as they say….

Ahmed the room cleaner without fail every day managed to catch us on our way back to the room. We were surprised there were any flowers left outside given the amount he passed over to us. The daily game of ‘guess what the towel sculpture is’ provided some entertainment. He quickly cottoned on to the fact that we drank tea with sugar as the tea/sugar mountain on the dressing table quickly built up after his daily visits.

The water park on site is free and easy to walk to and well worth visiting.

One of the main reasons that we returned is for the snorkelling. The hotel is located on a bay and the reef turns into this area and can be accessed by the jetty. As soon as you enter the water it is teaming with life. It is safe and easy to access. We saw a turtle, barracuda, lion fish, squid and tons of other sea life. The sea cannot be accessed directly from the beach outside the hotel to protect the coral (but a quick walk gets you to a part where you can get in). The bay in this area is sandy and shallow.

Whilst I mention swimming, could someone let me know if there is a rule that the larger the person the smaller the Speedo’s?

The food is the usual fare and it is regularly mentioned that it gets repetitive. Put it this way; if I laid out my seven meals for the week in my kitchen and took a bit of each every day for seven days then yes it would be repetitive. But if I limited myself to eating just the one meal each day then it would not.

The evening entertainment is limited to a singer destroying songs by various 80’s artists and some other unknown songs that our European friends seemed to warm to. I would well advise our Eurovision team to spend some time at this hotel to see how we could gain some extra points in next year’s contest.

We escaped without suffering any tummy upset but we do make sure that we do not have our room freezing cold (in fact at this time of year did not use the air conditioning at all) and also that we use the hydration sachets daily as a matter of course to replace lost salts/sugars sweated out rather than waiting until we get ill. Also bringing normal tablets from home will treat tummy troubles; it seems most of the complaints about ‘Pharoah’s Revenge’ are about the cost the local pharmacist’s medication…

We did find ourselves getting up at about 0700 hrs as at this time of year the sun starts to disappear at about 1600 hrs.

I know that Manchester flight has just started again at the beginning of November and hope that it carries on for time to come.

Well worth a visit to get away from the hustle and bustle and cold.

We have visited several parts of Egypt and as an ex Diver now snorkeler I found the coral off the beach some of the best I have ever seen, teaming with life, and very good visibility, made exceptionally safe for all. The hotel for us was a bit too big, the food for the first 3 days was acceptable, but after became a bit same old variation of a theme.
There was plenty of choice though, and you won't go hungry. Like others say you are best to slip the beach boy £2 and he will find you the best spot for the breeze and sunshine.
The staff can not be faulted, they are all helpful and pleasant, most work tirelessly to please. The reception of the hotel is fabulous the rooms spacious and very clean, we had no smell issues in 2338, the gardens are immaculate as are the pools and we used the wellness centre that was good value. The location is nice, it's a shame there is not a couple of restaurants nearby so you could have a change. The rep Alan from Thomsons really knows his stuff, and is great.
Next time we visit we will go to the Coraya as that just seems that bit better, all we spoke who had been to both advised the same. But value for money and with a family, you can't beat the Lamaya.

We returned from this excellent hotel, last Wednesday, after spending three weeks there, this was the sixth time we have visited, and again it was just as good as the previous visits. They have now included a Al la Carte restuarant, down at the Morgana Bar, and very good it was. The staff are all excellent, and remembered us from previous visits. As regards to some other peoples, account of the Hotel, We have never ever noticed any sewage smells, the shower pressure was not at all low, and certainly the shower was not outdated. The food was again very good and plenty of choice, The animation staff are brilliant, and if you go, Please say hello to Aymen for me, (john), he was very comical and we had excellent days of playing Boules. It says a lot for the Hotel when you meet people who have also been coming back year after year, and yes We will be back next year, As one other person has already said, you get your visa and then pay on the bus, £13 each, Pay in the airport we had change from £20 Total

Highly recommended

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Lamaya Hatel in Marsa Alam. We had a brilliant time.On arrival the checking in routine was very good. We were greeted with a refreshing drink and a warm damp towel. We were allocated our room in double time. After many hours of traveling this was very welcome.
The hotel is set in a lovely bay where four other Iberotel hotels are set. The outdoor area was spacious with the opportuinty for walks in the day or evening. A pathway is suitable for anyone who would like to go for a jog, with 100 m measurements set on the pathway. I think the distance total was 1.6K. There are plenty of sun shades on the beach, some of the beds were a little rickerty though, but the beach boys were very helpful and would soon replace them for you. Towel replacement is available daily.
Entrance to the sea was restricted to two entry points. This was to protect the coral. Easy entry to the water for snorkling or diving from a jetty. The bay was full of fish, I was diving but saw as many fish in the bay snorkling as I did diviing, even Turtle and Lion Fish.
The food was exellent with a good variety and choice at all meal times.
The staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly.
The hotel is very child friendly with shaded pools for young children. I would recommend the hotel for a family. The hotel very quiet and uncrowded and felt spacious even though they were busy.

Room Tip: Our room didnt have a sea view, this was a shame but didnt affect our enjoyment as we spent very lit...
