“Wonderful hotel, great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

We (couple, mid twenties) stayed here for a very quiet and relaxing week in the middle of September 2012. We booked a taxi from the airport through the reception at the hotel which I would advise doing, it was less than $30 and got us there in 20 mins. Easy Peasy.

The hotel is beautiful. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite which was stunning and really made our holiday. The staff on the reception desk were very helpful and polite. Our suite was lovely. Huge, very modern, very comfortable, and kept very clean by the lovely El Sayed.

Food - the food in the main buffet is ok. The main buffet can get quite hectic and we found some of the other guests were quite rude but generally this was the minority. The staff in the main buffet work incredibly hard. We used the buffet mainly for lunch but you can also have dinner there. Our favourite restaurant was the Breezes restaurant by the main pool. Tarek in the Breezes restaurant was a brilliant waitor, he always remembered our names and made us feel so welcome. He was fantastic. The Souk restaurant was atmospheric and the food was lovely. I’d recommend booking both during your stay.

The grounds of the hotel are kept very pretty. The beach is a five min walk down a pretty private path but there is also a shuttle bus on golf buggies that runs all day.

I couldn’t recommend the hotel highly enough. Thank you for a lovely week – and a special mention to Tarek in the Breezes restaurant for being so brilliant.

We are in receipt of your very kind review.

We are glad that you enjoyed your vacation here with us in Marsa Alam. Unfortunately some guests behavior on their vacation can be annoying to other guests. We always try our best to monitor all areas.

We are experiencing many guests from the UK who now book their own holidays (flights and then the all inclusive package direct on the hotel website, arranging the local limo to pick them up). I am sure this will also increase now that the Manchester flight has started again this November.

Thank you for your comments on Tarek and I will ensure your thanks is passed onto him. He is still working on the Breezes Pool & Bar at the moment.

We hope you have an opportunity to visit us again soon

The hotel is a series of 2 floor buildings enclosed inside the compound.
Very spacious room, with veranda and chairs, nice bathroom, large main room, great room staff.
The compound is large, has a 1.2km running ring around it (quite busy early in the morning), but is in the middle of nowhere. There are fantastic pools (4) around for relaxing, 2 with bars in the water, umbrellas, deck chairs and reps around the main pool - aim for the smaller pools for total relax. Organized fun and games for kids - good for parents!
The beach is 10 minute walk away (there is a little train for lazy people) and there are more deck chairs and umbrellas, a bar and toilets (very useful). You cannot enter the water from the hotel beach (due to the corals), you have to walk round 300ms to the entrance zone but once in the corals start straight away. The first part of the corals are ok, but swimming out you really start seeing serious stuff (however if you are not a strong swimmer wear a jacket - you are far out before you know it) fish and corals. There are a lot of snorkelling and diving lessons, and trips from the hotel if you want.
Food is good, loads of it and a lot of fresh fruit and veg, but not much local stuff.

Downsides : dirty outside the compound and rooms are not super clean (but still good for Egyptian standards) / it was very windy when we were there, so umbrellas could not provide shade and you were sandblasted on the beach.

Room Tip: The rooms closer to the beach are a lot better than the ones near the main building

Thank you for your review relating to your visit to our hotel earlier in the year.

Since your visit there has been many additional changes at the hotel, we now have The Souk open, which only serves Arabic food with live music each evening. We also have a restaurant open located on the Breezes Pool Bar in the evening.

We also hold a Arabic Themed night in the main Marsa Restaurant every Friday night, with Tanoura and belly dancers

I am also glad to say that we have over 150 wind breaks on the beach and over 100 new windbreaks located around the swimming pools for the windier times of the year.

I have noted your comment concerning the cleanliness of the bedrooms and will discuss with the Executive Housekeeper this morning

I stayed at the Hilton for 10 nights at the start of October. We booked a taxi from Marsa Alam airport which was €30 (Euro was widely accepted and often the price quoted for things).

On arrival "Mr and Dr" apparently meant "Mr and Mr" and despite booking a double room we were shown to a twin room.... I was lovely but not what we had booked but it was the middle of the night and we were too tired to say anything. The next morning we went to reception (where I became "pink doctor") and they appologised and brought us to a double room.

The food was very good considering the price we paid (if booking from Europe use the hilton.com site as the dollar price ends up being cheaper when you consider the conversion rate). Desserts were not really to my taste but there was plenty of choice of food. You can have lunch at the pool bars but I was out diving during the day so I didn't try them. I didn't have many coctails but the ones I had were nice but not fantastic. The included coffee was almost undrinkable but there is bar beside reception where you can buy delicious coffee.

The house reef is absolutely beautiful. Try to bring a snorkel and mask and little swimming shoes with you rather than buying them there as they're a bit exensive. I saw lion fish, trigger fish, unicorn fish...... There was absolutely no problem finding sun loungers at the beach or the pools (there are 4 pools to choose from). When you check into the hotel you get a towel card which you can use to get a towel at the beach/pool (just remember to make sure you get it back when you return your towel each day as lost cards cost €10).

The hotel isn't really near anything. You can book a taxi to Marsa Alam or to Port Ghalib if you want (Port Ghalib doesn't sell alcohol so don't go expecting night clubs...) but it's lovely, safe and relaxed!!

I went diving almost every day with Emperor Divers (they arrange pick up/drop off) and I can't recommend them enough.

There is wifi in the reception but not in the rooms unless you pay extra.

The beds were very comfortable, water pressure was great in the shower and the rooms were immaculately clean. The shampoos/shower gels were nice. The air conditioning worked very well and wasn't too noisy. I only turned on the tv once or twice but there seemed to be a never ending number of channels in different languages.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the beach if you're not keen on walking far

Thank you for your 'Beautiful Hotel, Great Reef' Review.

I am sorry to hear about the confusion of your room on arrival and glad to hear that this was soon resolved.

We mainly use the towel cards to control how many towels are used by the guests in the morning. We operated a couple of months without the cards and was surprised at how many guests took 3 towels each and placing one on a sun bed at the main pool, Waves pool and the beach. Suddenly all our sun beds were gone. We operate our own laundry 24 hours a day and we were unable to collect towels and have them clean the next day. We are also aware that guests can easily forget where the towel card is etc.

I am glad you mentioned that Port Ghalib does not sell alcohol. So when you visit TGI Fridays the refillable coke become very good value.

regards

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

We have just come back from a 3 weeks stay (from 28th of September till 17th of October) at the Hilton Nubian Resort in Marsa Alam. It was our first time in Egypt and we definitely would like to come back next year as the experience was simply beautiful.
To report on the positive side: the resort is new, the small buildings (max 2 floors) are in Nubian style and harmoniously integrated in the landscape, large; there is enough space to walk around and a variety of things to do and visit: a very nice beach, very well equipped, 4 swimming pools with bars, massages, beauty salon, gift shops, a pharmacy, a gym.
The suites are really vast and very nice (85 m2, 2 bathrooms including a Jacuzzi, king-seize bed, large terrace, tea and coffee in the room, luxurious furniture).
The personnel is welcoming, friendly, helpful, smiling, doing their best to be professional and customer oriented.
We had encountered a number of problems at the beginning of our stay and we addressed our concerns to Mr Mohamed Aboulela, Assistant Front Desk Manager. The reaction was immediate and positive. We have been deserved a VIP treatment for the rest of our stay and we have been provided with a detailed feed-back on the actions the Hilton team, at all levels, was going to undertake to fix the issues.
To report on the negative side: some guests have really no manners. Noisy everywhere, incapable to sit correctly at table, eating and drinking too much (the downside of the “all inclusive”), not respecting the other guests in any respect. We think that a 5* Hotel like Hilton should be more selective in choosing the tour operators they would like to work with, and in explaining the rules of the house (dress code, areas that should be perfectly quiet, parts of the beach and the sea that are protected and where entrance is forbidden etc.).
We would like sincerely thank each and every member of the Hilton team who contributed to make our holidays unforgettable: from the reception, the maintenance, the room service, the service in the restaurant (especially Mr Rino who was always very kind, friendly and professional) and a special thanks to Mr Maksoud, who is a wonderful cook as well as a very nice person.
We are sure they will keep on working to make Hilton become the N° 1 Hotel in Marsa Alam by continuously improving the level of their services and by increasing the variety and the quality of their offer: à la carte restaurants, a professional SPA, a professional Beauty Salon, a wonderful quite beach, etc..

Room Tip: The suites are superb

Thank you for your review on your recent visit to our hotel.

We are glad to see that you enjoyed your vacation and that the team members treated you like VIPs. It is always our intention to ensure that guests are able to relax and enjoy their vacation, it is hard at times when some guests seem to be have a different understanding of what is good and bad.

We try to operate a minimum dress code in the restaurants in the evening, but always have a small percentage of guests that need to be encouraged to wear the correct clothing.

We look forward to welcoming you back next year

We have just returned from a weeks stay at this lovely resort. We have been a number of times to various parts of Egypt but were keen to return here because of the excellent snorkelling and diving in this bay.
We travelled on a Thomson flight. I don't think I need to elaborate on the basic facilities they provide. If you have a laptop or ipad download some films and take this to watch, but at the very least make sure you have a good book or some music to listen to. Fortunately it is only a 5 1/2 hour flight from the UK.
Marsa Alam airport knocks spots of any other in Egypt we have been. Staff there are quite efficient, friendly. Visa's sold on arrival no hassle and you are out of the building with your luggage in less than half an hour after landing at most.
Transfer to the hotel took half an hour on a minibus but remarkably from a whole plain load of British people only 6 of us stayed at the Hilton.
The Hilton ticks most boxes of what one looks for in resort comfort and amenities. Check in was quick and friendly and our booking request of rooms not on the ground floor had been noted. The rooms are spacious, excellent drawer and wardrobe space and spotlessly clean. Enough surface space in the bathroom to put all potions and lotions on. Large Balcony or Terrace.
The whole resort is well laid out with one large and 3 smaller pools. All have plenty of comfy sunbeds. The beach is a little walk or shuttle train ride away. A large bar for drinks and and lunch snacks with plenty of seating space.
And then there is of course the bay for snorkelling and diving. Unfortunately the coral and fish have suffered from overexposure to humans (I suspect) but overall it is still a great experience and to swim with turtels so close is truly unique.
The restaurant was overall good and we always found something different to try. The staff we dealt with here get to know you quickly, they work long hours and are eager to please. The set menu in the Souk bar is definitely worth a try as is the dinner at Breezes.
Now for the bits that could do with improvement. There are no toilets anywhere except off the main lobby and a couple by the beach bar. This is quite inconvenient as you need to go back to your room all the time. Some of the bar staff at Breezes (main pool bar) and the beach bar are quite sullen and appear disinterested and I personally experienced a couple of times being overlooked in the queue in favour of male customers.
One of the 3 smaller pools is an adult only pool. Yet this pool is the only one that does not have a bar!? Incidentally there were hardly any children in the resort this week.
There is no spa! Of course, I should have known this upon research but honestly, I just presumed there would be in a new resort like this. There is though the constant touting for business for massages and the usual mani & pedicure. My husband did have a massage which was perfectly good but the ambiance in the space restricted annex was neither relaxing or pleasant.
The planting still needs to establish itself with a number of the palm trees failed to flourish, it will be nice to see more of them swaying in the breeze and providing dappled shade.
Then there are the Russians and/or Ukrainians! I can only presume the reason for their lack of manners is due to the fact they still presume that "he who shouts loudest and shoves the most is the one that gets the meagre ration allowance from the communist days"! They clearly have not yet learned to integrate themselves with the rest of society. There are of course exceptions but overall, they are loud, impatient, drink to excess, have no interest in mixing with anybody but their own and quite frankly can only be described as a nuisance. Unfortunately this appears to be a problem along all the red sea resorts.
All in all we had a great week here and would recommend it unreservedly.

Many thanks for your review and kind comments.

Unfortunately a 5 hour flight is now being classed as a short haul flight and many of the old 'extras' have been removed. Definitely a good idea to bring a Ipad or something to keep you occupied.

We are fortunate that the airport at Marsa Alam is very good and we never have any problems of arrivals or departures.

We are still requesting from our owning company to have some additional toilets built around a couple of the swimming pools.

The adult pool was chosen in this location as all the other pools have small additional pools attached which are for children. I will discuss with the F&B Manager to ensure that we complete some table service to this pool so that guests can relax and not need to walk across to Waves Pool.

Unfortunately we do not have a full size Spa and only offer a fully equipped fitness centre and massage facilities.

Now that we have finished the summer season and our winter season planting programme will start. This includes adding 200 additional palm trees to different parts of the hotel.

regards

Stayed at Hilton from 29.09 till 13.10.2012. It was our 2nd time staying in this hotel (the 1st one was in October 2011). What can I say ... It was perfect!! Though 1 year passed almost nothing has changed, at least to the worse side ))) The main reason we were back-magnificent beach with coral reef and great turtles and polite, smiling, hospitable (that's really difficult to find at Egyptian hotels) staff team. What's really improved is animation team (better than the Mojos one). Semsem muahhh! And the beach (more well equipped umbrellas, beach bar).
What to advise? To protect turtles and the reef especially from Russians who touch, hug them... Otherwise they'll leave soon. The second-not to meet many people from former USSR countries. We saw as one of them was drunk all the vacation, even the staff didn't know what to do with him :).
Non the less our staying was wonderful for the second time and we are going to come back on May 2013.

Hope our review will be helpful.

Yours, Olga+Olga, Belarus, Minsk.

Thank you for visiting us for the second time, it is always great to welcome back return guests.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us again and we appreciate your comments concerning the improvement from the animiation.

We are working the the owners of the Abu Dabab Bay to see if they can add stronger controls on their area of the beach to at least bring them up to our standard. It is important that we protect this beautiful bay and not allo a minority to treat it so badly.

My daughter has already provided her comments (Dal 78) and whllst I echo most of her review I would like to add some comments of my own.
Marsa Alam, is 5 and a half hours from England, and the only company that fly there are Thompson/First choice, with 1 Wednesday flight in and out a week. The Hilton Nubian is not one of the hotels offered in either Thompson/First Choice packages and as such does not have a large number of British visitors. The transfer from the airport is about 20- 25 minutes, and I would recommend arranging a taxi through the hotel by email, especially if you are travelling as a group rather than a couple, as we were.
Reception/Guest Room
Check in was the fastest and most personalised we had experienced, however there were only 7 people and 4 rooms being checked in and all of us had been initially allocated block 33. My husband and I have stayed in a number of different Red Sea resorts, and this is the first Hilton Hotel we have stayed in. The room was lovely and spacious with an extremely comfortable bed, (in our experience a bit of a rarity). My mother (in her 70’s) had a ground floor room with a bath, no separate shower, getting in and out of the bath was not something she could easily manage on her own, and although we asked at reception on our first night, it was only when we spoke to Mohammed, Assistant Front Desk Manager a few days later that she was moved a few doors down into a room designed for the less able bodied, which suited her needs, and when a week into our holiday I had an accident requiring minor hospital treatment (more about that later) Mohammed was a star arranging for my husband and I to be moved to a ground floor suite, in the adjoining block, which had 2 bathrooms, a large terrace with dining and seating areas, and separate living /sleeping areas and on a par with the Honeymoon suite in Mexico we stayed in. I have to also mention Mossab, also working in reception who taught my husband some additional Egyptian/Arabic words and insisted he used it, nothing was to much for them. The standard of cleaning in the rooms was excellent, with some amazing towel art.
Food
There were a number of areas where you could eat, and with the exception of the beach area we tried all of them. The main dining area is straight off the reception area, with 2 entrances, there are notices asking guests to wait to be seated, this was often ignored. I found the dining area to be chaotic, particularly at lunchtime, and it seemed to me that not enough staff were effectively deployed, with tables not being reset properly, water and glasses often missing and staff struggling to remember drink orders. Having said the above, I would like to praise Gamal, who always found us a table for 5, ensured we were looked after and asked after our health and wellbeing daily. The food itself was on a par with other hotel dining areas catering for a large number of people. I own up to being quite fussy, and did find the menu limited. My husband loved the Asian night, my preferred meal was probably breakfast, I would recommend the omelettes, each one I had was perfectly cooked. I would have liked to have had the option of soft boiled or poached eggs, and have been able to obtain these in other Red Sea hotels. There was the added bonus of a waffle or pancake station one or other offered on alternative days, and at lunch time the Panini’s were very popular, these were also available at the main pool and beach bar daily.
I agree with other comments that you need to try the Souk Cafe, wear loose clothing, you’ll need it. This is also the area where you can obtain a water pipe or Shisha. To book any of the venues for an evening meal is on a first come first serve basis and needs to be done via the Nobo Bar between 1 – 3pm
My favourite meal of the entire holiday, was a private one on the terrace of our room, I would definitely recommend this, food and service were excellent.
Pool & Beach Areas
With 4 pool areas you are spoilt for choice, the main pool area is where the animation team undertake most of their entertainment, and all but the adult only pool had a swim up bar. The bar staff are excellent, and their bar areas kept really clean it would be difficult to single any of them out, having worked a full day in the pool bars, then are often seen working in the bars in the reception/lobby area. Better attention could have been paid to cleaning areas around the pool especially when drinks had been spilled. The beach has been mentioned in other reviews, I found the best time of the day to go was early morning as the entrance to the sea, and the reef area is on a public beach, and this gets extremely busy during the day. The sea life is stunning and absolutely worth the walk.
Evening Entertainment/Animation team
What can I say about the amazing animation team that has not already been said, however being opinionated I do have some comments about the entertainment, I had been looking forward to the Whirling Dervish and the Belly dancers, and this was ruined for me because of the area of entertainment, this was in full light just outside the Marsa Dining area in the lobby/reception, with people walking in front and behind whilst they were performing. This is the first hotel in Egypt that I have stayed in where the animation team do not have a decent area to perform in, the Axis bar has a limited stage area, and the design of it with the pillars etc is restrictive, and the area in front of the main swimming pool, is the main walkway to the restaurant and lobby/bar area.
And lastly not an area I thought I would be commenting on the Hospital and Doctor service. Having cut my toe on the edge of the main path leaving a pool area, the Doctor decided I needed to go to the Port Ghalib Hospital, for stitches. I was transferred by car and met at the entrance, the service was quick and efficient and it took longer to settle the bill than to obtain treatment. The Doctor back at the hotel charged £6.00 per visit to change the dressing and although a lovely man, I could have done this myself, the probably have made a better job of it and on the final change I provided him with dressing to use. Make sure that whatever currency you use you have small denominations, as both the Chemist and the Doctor had no change, so we paid over the odds for goods and services. Thanks to Sameh and Mohammed for providing me with tape and rubber gloves that allowed me to get into the water again.
I would recommend this Hotel and the amazing staff as a place to stay if you want to relax and unwind,

Thank you for completing a detailed review on your recent family visit.

We were sorry that you had an accident on your vacation, but gald to see that the treatment form the private hospital and doctor enabled you to quickly relax and enjoy your time with us.

I aknowledge your comment concerning the busy lunch period at the hotel. We have been monitoring this for a couple of weeks and identified that having 2 large entrances to the one restaurant is causing us some issues on controlling the seating procedure. This is something we will work on firther as we are not in a position to close the entrances.

The Asian and Arabic Themed Nights in the main restaurant have been very succesful with our guests and we hope to add additional nights over the next couple of months.

Thank you for adding a detiled review as this will be very useful for future guests to read and has covered many additional peices of information.
