We stayed again for Christmas, and enjoy our stay very much. The staff were nice and helpful, and we did our own diving in the bay. The dugong was there, but we missed him when diving... Next time perhaps... Christmas Eve was nice and the entertainment was also very enjoyable. The only thing I was not happy with, was when checking out. They were trying to make us pay more that what the exchange rate was for some wine we had purchased. They wouldnt accept credit cards, which we thought for a hotel was very strange, but used the cash point machine to withdraw the money in their currency to settle the bill. It would have been nice to finish a lovely week from start to finish, without the reception staff trying to rip us off. We havent been put off going back, but know for the future, to have cash ready if purchased anything that are not included in the all inclusive pack.

Good hotel for both families, singles seeking for a get away, "senior citizens", and any moderate animation enthusiasts. Guests to meet include Roman, Germanic, Slavic, Hamito-Semitic, Asian languages speakers.
With one of its strongest points, the Spicy Shop run by Jamaica - a very friendly and interpersonally gifted gentleman with good head for business and lasting relations building, the hotel will make a good lasting impression.
Been there thrice, so far, and believe this is not a closed set...

Room Tip: Good variety, lower to higher located (hill, not storeys!), more intimate to quite social over the p...

This is one of over 200 Holiday resorts south from Hurgada. Most of these resorts have been built during the 2000 century. This complex was build apr. 2006. However it is a little bit worn out. Some maintaining is carried out all the time.

The best things are:
1. The climate. Sunshine all the year around. Nice, mild and dry wheather, better than for instance on Canary islands or Thailand. In the beginning of December 2012 still high temperatures: daily +24-28C, nightly 16-20C, sea 23-26C. Marsa Alam area is south enough for "winter"-visitors. You do not need to travel to Asia to get granted sunshine.
2. Very good sandy beach. Children can easy go to swim directly from the beach.
3. The attitude of personnel and their willingness to serve is very nice. Do not forget the tips after good servece!
4. Nice suprises from cleaning boys. You do not know which kind of "animal" is waiting for you in your room after your daily routines. This procedure seems to bee quite common in Egypt.
5. Activities. Do not hasitate to take part in activities on the beach and remember to visit the teatre in the evening.

Dissappointments:
1. The underwater life and corals in the vicinity of the beach. Maybe, I have been snorkeling the best sites of Red Sea already earlier. Anyhow lot of seeing for beginners.
2. The very similar variety of meals during 2 weeks. The food itself was OK.
3. Nothing to see outside the Holiday resort. No original settlements, except Al Quseira 90 km north from Abu Dabbab. Of course you can take part in trips arranged by your travel agency.

General observations:
1. The standard and basic set up of these Holiday resorts is quite equal. If you have visited one of these, the rest are about the same. If you are "normal" turist, most probably there will be no dissappointments. The standards are high enough nowadays.
2. The local workers are working long days and periods (1-2 month in a row, then 1 week rest at home, Cairo,Luxor, Assuan, etc.). The tips are vital important addition to their low salary.
3. Sol Y mar Abu Dabbab is suitable for couples and families with children. It is quiet enough. No extra noice of children or drunken visitors.
4. Most of the visitors were from Germany, Poland or Russia. Some from Italy. Only few couples from scandinavian countries. All of them are nice people !
5. We can recommend Sol Y Mar Abu Dabbab for all the nice people !

Enjoyed my stay at this hotel very much.

Pros:
-Incredible reef, very close to the beach with wonderful aquatic life. Excellent for snorkeling and diving. This was the best thing at the hotel.
-Good pools. The children's pool had a slide, so it was very amusing for our young kids.

Cons:
-Food was average. Needs improvement.
-Rooms are good, but not luxurious. TVs were not even LCDs

Well what can i say but brilliant. I stayed at the resort between the 14th and 28th of November 2012 traveling alone. I flew with Thomsons which was a bit uncomfortable due to lack of leg room but it was only for 5 hours so just bearable. On arrivel the rep Hany made sure all was ok (he was very good) and i was very quickly show'n my room which was very roomy, clean and had a wonderfull view of the bay (2134), 2 large beds, tv, fridge and balcony. This was kept to a very high standard by Mohammed, who insisted on asking me every day if everything was ok, also the reception phoned my room every other day just to make sure, impressed!. All the staff were very helpfull throuhout my trip. Day'ly chats with the general manager made me feel most welcome and again ask if i could think of anything they could do to improve the resort and to be honest the only improvment would be to have free internet. The only reason they have to charge for the inernet was due to a lack of telephone cables, all coms were through satelite, which is expensive. This is an ongoing problem and is being sorted out now, so hopefully early next year free net!. Through out my stay the food was impeccable, wether in the restaurant or in the beach bar, always greeted with a smile and taken to your table, the food was buffet style and varied even BBQ if you required. I booked my trip to Sol Y Mar hoping for a nice relaxing time with some good diving, the diving was the best ever, my thanks to the whole diving team at Ocean who again made me feel at home.
I suppose all I can say is thanks to every one at Sol Y Mar and I WILL be back very soon.

Room Tip: Around room no.2134
