“Perfect place to relax in the sun and get back in touch with nature”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

We spent a week at the Gorgonia at the beginning of March. We've traveled to Marsa Alam 3 times before but this was without doubt our best experience! After a 1.5 bus ride from the airport on a comfortable, air conditioned bus we arrived and checked in immediately. When we were showed to our room, spacious and clean we noticed that the beds were two single and that the fridge was not working. We called reception and within 20 minutes we got a new fridge installed and the bed made into one. The fastest service we've ever had in Egypt. Same applies to the service throughout our holiday, from the bar to the restaurant from room cleaning to the sunbed/towel guys on the beach, fast , efficient and polite. A big thank you goes to the guys cleaning the public toilets, spotless, always clean. They were stationed outside and clean up pretty much after every customer...impressive! The location is simply amazing, being in a natural park we were expecting good snorkeling but it was above expectations.
In the two natural pools easily accessible from the beach there were at least three sea turtles, we met them every day when going for a swim, guitar sharks and rays. A lot of arabic surgeon fishes...now, I have read a lot of reviews complaining about these being aggressive and I totally disagree, if let alone they are innocuous, we've been swimming through herds of these and never had an issue. The lak of a jetty is also not an issue. once you familiarise yoursef with tides and swim out with high tide you can easily reach one of the most beautiful barrier reefs we've seen in our lives.with 25/30 mt drops, thousands of fishes and different corals. The current goes left to right so if you swim out from the left entrance you can swim a mile with current behind you and come out at the other end of the resort easily! The resort also has maps in every room and booklets to explain all of this, never been easier. The only down side for us was the food, now we don't go to these places for the food so wasn't really a huge issue for us but we think a bit more focus should be put in improving the variety/quality. It could be that it was because we went in a "low season" but we found breakfast pastries a little stale, and the buffet with not a lot of variety and really bland in flavours. The pasta station and the beach bar (lunch) were good though ad we always found something to eat :) The a la carte restaurant are also good and if you are on the "all inclusive" package you are allowed a visit to each per stay (pizza and Seafood). Great experience, we will definitely be back! Thanks to all of the staff for making this a memorable holiday!

Room Tip: Get a room near the baech, the ones close to the main restaurant/bar can be a bit noisy.

The room was clean and comfortable although could have used some maintenance (jammed door that was never repaired, rust, etc..)
I have to admit the animation team was not that annoying, on the other hand you couldn't rest on the beach for 2 minutes without someone trying to sell you some service.
The diving was pretty bad, while the local reef is very nice (nice formations and lots of life), all other dives are via car and mostly are shore dives, your gear will be thrown on a pickup with little care, all the guides we had assigned showed no interested in actually guiding and just swimmed pretty fast to the exit (I can do my cardio back home thankyouverymuch), it was also pretty expensive.
oh and the christmas "show" that you couldnt really avoid was cringeworthy

This is one of 7 hotels we have stayed at over the last couple of years at the Marsa Alam coast. We have always had good experiences here, but this was one the best. It is very spacious as a resort, this also goes for the room. Room is also very clean with a very nice balcony. The reef is beautiful and so it the beach. Enough space and sunbeds. We found the staff to be very friendly, the food in the main restaurant was good and the two extra restaurants are a very nice asset. We will return!

Beautiful hotel with spacious rooms, excellent food selection, plenty of choice but not many food options for younger children. Heated pool was great but still a bit cooler for smaller kids. Fantastic house reef with a pristine reef teeming with marine life.

Staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble we wanted a room nearer the restaurant which was no problem. Please tip staff generously as they work 14 hours days with hardly any leave and get paid very little but are always smiling.

Spa did not really not match the five star ambience and staffed by men who still did a good job. Could have easily spent another week there will go back again.

Just got back from Gorgonia beach and wow what a beautiful place. The weather was fantastic, the food glorious. Our room was spacious and clean and was overlooking the sea which was just perfect. The sea was amazing for snorkelling and we also had a go a kite surfing. We would like to thank the kite surf instructor Limpy for everything he did for us. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. We were the only english people there, and if I had one tiny complaint it would be that we could not change any money or travellers cheques. So if you are english take euros with you. We did visit the fish restraunt on site and as a coeliac, I was dissapointed that most of the dishes were pasta, but the main restraunt more than made up for that. We would most definately go back to Gorgonia beach in fact I wish we were still there.

Room Tip: 2144 or any room in Manta block overlooking the sea. Ask for upstairs as the view is stunning.

We spent a great week in this hotel in the beginning of March. Great weather 25-31 degrees air, good thing though is the heated swimmimg pool. The sea is excellent for snorkelling, you can borrow the equipment on the beach or at the diving centre - It is really something, both kids and parents enjoyed it. I wished we´d had more time to go for the snorkelling trips. Good food - no digestive problems! Friendly staff. We had to visit the doctor in the hotel and we were very satisfied. Massages in the health centre are really professional. The animation team is very nice, they speak mostly Italian and German and English but we were pleased to see a Czech animation girl there. We really enjoyed it there. Clean spacious rooms, always enough fresh watter. A really good standard, it is worth the 2-hour journey form the airport. The best was the snorkelling, the food and the friendly people. We hope to come back.

Room Tip: The dolphin and the sea horse are the quietest part. With the pushchair you don´t want to be in the...

We went for one week at Christmas.
The hotel is nice and well kept though we did not find that they lived up to their 5 stars. We stayed at the Sofitel in Taba Heights last year and there was a huge difference between the two hotels.

The sea is amazing for diving and snorkeling and there is a great diving center nearby, TGI (Great and friendly service, great rates too) my husband got his Divers licensee while we were there)
Please note that if you have small children, there is no pier on the beach so you cannot actually enter the sea except by foot or swimming. Bring adequate shoes for swimming and DO NOT walk on the coral. We saw quite a few visitors doing so and by this rate I fear that the coral will suffer greatly within the next few years. Marsa Alam is still quite preserved and we saw a variety of fish, dolphins and even a dugong ( the last ones mentioned was on a boat excursion)

We found the food really good in general and the hotel prepared an amazing Christmas dinner in a tent for everyone.
The service was quite poor at times. If you arrive for dinner at 9 pm it can be hard to get served drinks at your table or catch the attention of a waiter and also they start clearing away the buffet. Also, the late breakfast served at the beach bar is very poor and they ran out of pastry very early and do not stock up either.
The bar service staff were also a bit moody at times and if you are a keen cocktail drinker ( we are not) pass your way as very few drinks are included in the All Inclusive and the cocktails are of very poor quality.

The Concierges were very friendly and spoke several languages. They were always more than helpful during our stay.

Our room was very big and lovely. We upgraded to be on a top floor and did have a bit of sea view. I'm not sure whether we should have paid for this though it wasn't expensive for the week.

The hotel is about 1.45 hours from the airport and there is nothing to do nearby. The hotel offers excursions and we spent a lovely day on a boat snorkeling and diving. Not too expensive either.
I had a great massage at the spa but they are really pushy trying to sell you all sorts of package deals and the prices changes by the minute! The spa is independent of the hotel as far as I understood.

This is a nice hotel and as I said, great for diving and snorkeling but I doubt that we will return.

Room Tip: We liked the top floor rooms beginning with 20 something. We were in 2092 and had a seaview. It is t...
