We spent a week at the Gorgonia at the beginning of March. We've traveled to Marsa Alam 3 times before but this was without doubt our best experience! After a 1.5 bus ride from the airport on a comfortable, air conditioned bus we arrived and checked in immediately. When we were showed to our room, spacious and clean we noticed that the beds were two single and that the fridge was not working. We called reception and within 20 minutes we got a new fridge installed and the bed made into one. The fastest service we've ever had in Egypt. Same applies to the service throughout our holiday, from the bar to the restaurant from room cleaning to the sunbed/towel guys on the beach, fast , efficient and polite. A big thank you goes to the guys cleaning the public toilets, spotless, always clean. They were stationed outside and clean up pretty much after every customer...impressive! The location is simply amazing, being in a natural park we were expecting good snorkeling but it was above expectations.
In the two natural pools easily accessible from the beach there were at least three sea turtles, we met them every day when going for a swim, guitar sharks and rays. A lot of arabic surgeon fishes...now, I have read a lot of reviews complaining about these being aggressive and I totally disagree, if let alone they are innocuous, we've been swimming through herds of these and never had an issue. The lak of a jetty is also not an issue. once you familiarise yoursef with tides and swim out with high tide you can easily reach one of the most beautiful barrier reefs we've seen in our lives.with 25/30 mt drops, thousands of fishes and different corals. The current goes left to right so if you swim out from the left entrance you can swim a mile with current behind you and come out at the other end of the resort easily! The resort also has maps in every room and booklets to explain all of this, never been easier. The only down side for us was the food, now we don't go to these places for the food so wasn't really a huge issue for us but we think a bit more focus should be put in improving the variety/quality. It could be that it was because we went in a "low season" but we found breakfast pastries a little stale, and the buffet with not a lot of variety and really bland in flavours. The pasta station and the beach bar (lunch) were good though ad we always found something to eat :) The a la carte restaurant are also good and if you are on the "all inclusive" package you are allowed a visit to each per stay (pizza and Seafood). Great experience, we will definitely be back! Thanks to all of the staff for making this a memorable holiday!
