We stayed for one night at the Golden Lion in Newport for a visit to see family who live in the village. The Golden Lion is situated in the centre of the village and in a perfect location. The restaurant has been extended and is absolutely lovely. Modern and fresh decor and the food wonderful. We had dinner and breakfast the next day and we couldn't fault anything. The pub is traditional with a pool table and very welcoming with a lovely log fire. However on the negative side, the rooms we stayed in - one double and one twin (9 & 10) were completely different to the standard in the restaurant. They were very dusty, needed a vacuum, and the bed linen and towels were in need of replacement. To be picky, even the UHT milk cartons were out of date and there was no hairdryer. To be fair the beds were comfy and being February we asked for extra duvets, which were brought up straight away. Hopefully, the management will upgrade the rooms, and then everything will be fine and we would have no hesitation to stay there again.
