My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Doctor's Court in Newport. We booked in for one night and were glad that we were not planning to stay any longer as it is by far the worst nights sleep we have ever had in a B&B. Although the room was clean, nicely furnished and had an impressive bathroom, it was incredibly noisy as it was directly above a busy restaurant. We were not informed of this when we made the booking. After the guests had finished dining we had to listen to the staff clearing up, moving furniture around etc and we were unable to sleep until the early hours of the morning. In addition to this the lights in the restaurant below were very bright and the room lacked black out blinds so we were trying to sleep in a brightly illuminated bedroom. We were very disappointed as our room was named the "Cosy Garden Room" and this combined with the price we paid lead us to believe that we were booking a quiet, relaxing room. I would suggest that the "Noisy, Above a Restaurant" room might be a more appropriate name for it.

I am writing to clarify why two of these reviews have been negative about the noise at Llys Meddyg.
Firstly, Room 3 (the Green Room) is above the front door and if there are restaurant guests leaving late after having a few drinks in the Cellar Bar this room can be noisy as guests say their goodbyes and the door slams. We apologise about this and it has been a problem even though we have spent thousands on sound proofing. As a guide this room is usually only a problem on Saturday nights and therefore isn't recommended for a light sleeper wanting an early night on a Saturday.
The other negative review was writen by a guest staying in either Room 4 (Large Garden Room) or Room 5 (Cosy Garden Room). These rooms can be noisy for 6 weeks of the year only during school summer holidays when the kitchen garden restaurant is open in the evenings. Again, during these six weeks it is not usually too noisy and guests are all gone by 11ish (they can go to the Cellar Bar if they want to stay any later). Again, I would issue the same warning with these 2 rooms but only during the second half of July and August.
The reason I have writen this is so that potential guests can understand and have an accurate view of the experience they are likely to have at Llys Meddyg. All our other rooms are peaceful year round and all our ooms are peaceful most of the year! Please don't be put off a potentially wonderful stay with us by these two reviews.
