Having heard good things about Llys Meddyg I decided to give it a try for a walking holiday, and am very pleased I did.

Though the place was undergoing a bit of a facelift when I stayed - and the things were inevitably a bit chaotic as a result - it struck me as a very friendly place. I had a very nice room in the 'garden court' - very stylish with lots of attention to detail. There was nice art throughout and plenty of melin tregwynt textiles.

The meal was very nice, excellent menu, well presented and tasty.

Not a cheap break, but high quality.

Spent a cosy couple of days at Llys Meddyg in December. Interesting property with great rooms. Crisp cotton sheets and duvets, lovely bathrooms and funky artwork on the walls. Enjoy a drink in the cellar bar, indulge yourself with a fabulous meal with lots of local produce on the menu.

This intimate restaurant with rooms is situated in the lovely village of Newport in North Pembrokeshire and is the perfect base for exploring this stretch of the coastline.

We enjoyed our walks around the village down to the estuary where we found a great cafe/restaurant overlooking the sea - you gotta try the custard slices.

We really liked Llys Meddyg and hope that other guests will too. It looks like owners Ed and Louise have put their heart and soul into this business.

“Noisy room above a restaurant.”

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Doctor's Court in Newport. We booked in for one night and were glad that we were not planning to stay any longer as it is by far the worst nights sleep we have ever had in a B&B. Although the room was clean, nicely furnished and had an impressive bathroom, it was incredibly noisy as it was directly above a busy restaurant. We were not informed of this when we made the booking. After the guests had finished dining we had to listen to the staff clearing up, moving furniture around etc and we were unable to sleep until the early hours of the morning. In addition to this the lights in the restaurant below were very bright and the room lacked black out blinds so we were trying to sleep in a brightly illuminated bedroom. We were very disappointed as our room was named the "Cosy Garden Room" and this combined with the price we paid lead us to believe that we were booking a quiet, relaxing room. I would suggest that the "Noisy, Above a Restaurant" room might be a more appropriate name for it.

I am writing to clarify why two of these reviews have been negative about the noise at Llys Meddyg.

Firstly, Room 3 (the Green Room) is above the front door and if there are restaurant guests leaving late after having a few drinks in the Cellar Bar this room can be noisy as guests say their goodbyes and the door slams. We apologise about this and it has been a problem even though we have spent thousands on sound proofing. As a guide this room is usually only a problem on Saturday nights and therefore isn't recommended for a light sleeper wanting an early night on a Saturday.

The other negative review was writen by a guest staying in either Room 4 (Large Garden Room) or Room 5 (Cosy Garden Room). These rooms can be noisy for 6 weeks of the year only during school summer holidays when the kitchen garden restaurant is open in the evenings. Again, during these six weeks it is not usually too noisy and guests are all gone by 11ish (they can go to the Cellar Bar if they want to stay any later). Again, I would issue the same warning with these 2 rooms but only during the second half of July and August.

The reason I have writen this is so that potential guests can understand and have an accurate view of the experience they are likely to have at Llys Meddyg. All our other rooms are peaceful year round and all our ooms are peaceful most of the year! Please don't be put off a potentially wonderful stay with us by these two reviews.

Overall we had a great time in Llys Meddyg.
I agree with previous review that the rooms are noisy. We had room no 2 (the other one on first floor). We got the noise from the restaurant below and from other customers in rooms upstairs. It is not that every one was incredibly loud but it's just the way it is in such an old building. The room is large and worth the extra money compared to other places in the area. The bathroom is out of this world and beds, beddings, TV, fridge etc very very good. The place is pristine clean.
If you have small children be very careful with the windows as they have no safety at all.

The owners are friendly and try to give you the best of everything. We didn't have dinner there but thoroughly enjoyed breakfast.
The car park is fine.
Newport is very pretty and if you can walk for 20 minutes you will be awarded with a stunning beach.
Next door is 'the Golden Lion' pub which is great.

Lovely rooms and cellar bar and the food in the restaurant was very good but (and it's a big but) the room we stayed in was the noisiest we have ever come across. We were in the room at the top of the first flight of stairs, above the entrance and next to the main road into Newport. We had booked originally for 3 nights but had to check out and find alternative accommodation after getting only 4 hours sleep on the first night - the noise from downstairs kept us up until 2am and then the traffic noise woke us up at 6am. There are rooms in the cottage at the back of the property that may be much better but we would advise anyone thinking of staying to check which room they are allocated when booking and ask to be far away from the road and stairs. Shame - everything else was very good. We won't be going back though. Very disappointing that owners did not bother to come and deal with us when we asked to check out but instead left it to their staff to try and help us. Poor effort.
