After seeing many reviews here, we booked our honeymoon to Moorea and Bora Bora through Pacific for Less. Our package included a dinner on the beach, couples massage, bottle of champagne, and one rose petal turndown service.
Based on the review, rankings, etc. we expected great things - we were not let down. It was as gorgeous and first class as we had hoped. It's how I pictured Bora Bora. After a lei flower greeting at the airport, you board the biggest boat at the dock (I don't think there is a road to the airport, everyone leaves via boat). On the way they provided waters and had us fill out the registration forms so we didn't have to check in at the hotel's front desk. They greeted us at the St. Regis pier with cold drinks and wash cloths then a butler took us with another couple for a golf cart tour around the resort. It is a large resort, so they offer golf cart rides anytime you like (whenever we called they arrived within 5 minutes or less - we were there offseason so it could take longer if they're busy). We preferred using bikes to get around the resort, but they take them in at night for safety, so we usually got them after walking to breakfast. We didn't mind the long walks as long as it wasn't raining!
Our superior overwater villa was amazing (there are better views for higher prices, but we didn't care). The bathroom was gigantic including a separate closet with the toilet, a large tiled shower area next to a large sunken bathtub. There were double sinks with a window in between so you could look out to the bedroom and view of the water. There was also a closet area for our clothes. We chuckled when the butler offered to unpack for us - we're not looking for that much service, but it was nice to know they were happy to help with just about anything. They let us know that the St. Regis reusable canvas bag in the bathroom was ours to take - that was a nice touch. The bedroom and living room were great and I loved the Bose speaker system througout the suite.
The outside space was also awesome - a higher level deck connecting the bedroom and living room with a thatch roof covered table and chairs, two lounge chairs, then steps down to a lower deck for swimming including an outdoor shower. There weren't as many fish in the water as we saw in Moorea but it was pretty deep and a beautiful color. It rained for half of our stay (rainy season), so we didn't swim as much as we expected.
Our private beach dinner was very nice and we were grateful that was part of our package to defray some cost while we were there. Our included couples massage was also very nice although they setup temporary spa space in some beach villas while they were renovating the spa area. They did our rose petal turndown service (included in our packge) two nights before expected it, but we didn't care. We enjoyed room service dinner - they took care to setup table linens and it would probably be romantic on the deck outside if the weather had been better while we were there.
Breakfast was great - nice selection at the buffet and they'd offer to make fresh eggs in the style you prefer. We loved the french toast drizzled with chocolate sauce - try it! Dinner at the bar/lounge was easy. We ate at the Lagoon Restaurant one night and we were little uncomfortable with the overly attentive service. Maybe it was because it was slow season, but they checked in with us too often and perhaps had too many staff onhand. I know it's a strange thing to complain about, but we just wanted to get out of there. Our food was good though, and it was convenient being on the resort. We were disappointed the weather didn't allow us to sit outside and enjoy a sunset, but that was not the fault of the restaurant/resort. That would probably be well worth it!
We were happy to borrow rackets and balls to play tennis, but unfortunately it started pouring rain shortly into our time on the court so we ran to the gym and did a workout there instead. We had it to ourselves and liked the amenities there. The beach and pool areas were also great - plenty of chairs (offseason and everyone has swimming options at their rooms). The swim up bar was nice too (prepare to spend $20/drink).
We took the boat & bus to town - nice service they offer for free! We were a little disappointed in town... the resort is definitely what we pictured when we thought of Bora Bora, not the town. We would've felt like we missed out if we didn't check it out though.
We enjoyed looking for different areas of the resort on the "Couples Retreat" tv channel. The WIFI was expensive but worked great - including skype, streaming tv from home, email/web, etc.
Overall we would highly recommend the St. Regis. It is expensive, but it is top notch. When we reviewed Bora Bora hotels before our trip, it looked like you couldn't go wrong and they were all great. Well we drove by a few on the island side that might have disappointed us. This was paradise!
