We spent the last 4 nights of our FP honeymoon at this resort and it was a great way to end it. The setting is very romantic: beautiful views, luxury and seclusion.
The resort is not yet fully completed and there is still construction going on on the outskirts. So the spa, tennis courts, wedding chapel and some sort of running track are still being built.
One thing that struck us about this resort from the start was the design of all the public spaces. Every room or space and piece of furniture is unique and beautiful, with the design combining modern and island style (modern designs but lots of 'organic' materials). Overall, the decor reminded me more of a Miami Beach swanky resort than of any other resort we've stayed at in FP.
The bungalows are huge and nicely designed with small flat screen tvs in both the living room and the bedroom and a dvd player in the living room (bring your own dvd discs though). The pool is really really nice and has a great view of the Otemanu mountain. There are two restaurants but not both are always open for dinner. The food quality was erratic. We probably had one of the best and one of the worst meals of our FP vacation there. The breakfast buffet is a standard fare, something for everyone. Dinner buffets are not that great. The regular menu has some great and not so great options on it. We had a few encounters with bugs at this resort, which besides flies or mosquitoes which nibbled on us in the front desk area each time we were there, is a bit surprising since it's a new resort.
The service we've experienced at the resort was great. The staff was really nice and accommodating to us and seemed happy to work/be there. Since it was our honeymoon, we paid for a Diamond bungalow and specifically requested far out bungalows that are secluded. When we arrived we got the opposite: a bungalow with a direct view of the mountain but stuck between all other (lower price level) bungalows. We asked if there was anything else further out and we were told no, and to inquire next day since it was late already. Which is what we did, and the person at the front desk the next day got us one of the best bungalows (one of the ones we requested) at the very end of one of the 'legs'. Needless to say we were very happy with the switch which we didn't think had a high probability of happening.
The water in the lagoon is amazingly clear, and a pleasure to swim in, but the bottom is mostly sandy meaning no coral and not much fish. Which is what we expected before booking. However, we did some snorkelling anyway, just for the heck of swimming, and we were nicley surpised to see a stingray, an eagle ray and an occasional school of smaller fish in the water right near our bungalow. Notice: if you have a fear of water where you cannot touch the bottom with your feet, stay away from the further out bungalows as the water there is deeper (starts getting that way about third bungalow of each 'leg'). We didn't mind that at all.
We went to the main Bora Bora island once as the resort runs a free shuttle to the Intercontinental at Le Moana in Matira Point throughout the day. That area, Matira Point, is very congested with resorts, buildings, the beach at the Matira Point is just one resort next to the other and constant boat traffic and people traffic on the beach and the road. We felt that we wouldn't have gotten the same romantic setting and rest had we stayed on the island, as opposed to where we were. You feel truly relaxed and secluded at the THalasso. And you can't beat those views! Once they finish that resort, it will be even more amazing.
