I had heard that Bora Bora was heaven on earth. This was our third island resort for our honeymoon trip, so we had already seen the Sofitel Moorea and Te Tiare in Huahine. We had very high expectations for this resort. We had booked an Overwater Bungalow through our travel agent (Tahiti Legends). This room was the best room of our stay in French Polynesia. The room was great, being overwater with coral underneath our see-through coffee table was awesome. It was really cool to be able to wake up and feed the fish from the comfort of the couch. So, those were the great things that we’ll remember. A few items that went on the negative list: 1) the housekeeping did a really good job cleaning the room, but on a few occasions they moved items that were laid out, including closing a suitcase that was open next to the bed. They moved our papers from the coffee table to the desk, and just overall moved things around. We felt that this was over the top, as a couple times we freaked out as not being able to find something that had been in a certain spot when we left. 2) the bathroom had a separate toilet room, which had a smell, that we could not make disappear. At times, this smell would continue into the general bathroom. Over the four nights we were there, it was strong to weak, but it was always there, and there was no way that we could find to get rid of it. 3) the concierge staff was very knowledgeable with anything we asked, but it also felt they were a little pushy with both restaurant and activity suggestions. They did not access our situation, they just suggested.
There were a few added bonuses: 1) there was a free boat shuttle to the Intercontinental Thalasso (sister resort) and the two resorts were connected via billing, so if you had a breakfast meal plan, you could eat your breakfast at either resort. 2) Le Moana resort was on the main island, not an outskirt island, so it made it much easier to transfer out of the resort to an outside restaurant for dinner. Items were cheaper at Le Moana vs. Thalasso. Yes, the Thalasso is newer, but I think that Le Moana had better views and better access. 3) The front desk staff was very helpful as we had an awkward airport transfer (late flight after an early checkout).
With all of that said, this resort did meet all of our expectations, but nothing really stood out for us to remember forever. The room itself was the best of our honeymoon, but we didn’t feel like the resort stepped up to offer anything special. I do have to say that Bora Bora was heaven….and Le Moana came close.
