“Best Vacation Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

My husband and I stayed here Aug 25 - 31 for our Anniversary. We loved the Intercontinental Le Moana Resort. From the fruit tray and macaroons in our room upon arrival. To the surprise bottle of champagne waiting for us when we returned from a private motu lunch before Mt Otemanu the day of our anniversary. The staff was great, always attentive to our needs and always greeting us with "Ia Orana." The water before our Horizon Overwater Bungalow was so clear and calm. Our first day and last day there we had a sting ray swim under our bungalow & hang out for a minute. We fed the fishies right from our glass coffee table that slid open. We snorkeled, swam and floated right before our room. Bring a lounge floatie to layout on and relax, and some string to tie up to the ladder so you don't drift away. I truly enjoyed bungalow 18. We had a view of Raiatea to our right, Mt Otemanu to our left, and gorgeous sunrises viewed straight from our bed every morning. We had no problems with winds and had no rain during our stay here. Steps (literally steps) from the entrance to the Resort is Matira Beach, a great place to watch the sunset. The water is so calm there, it looks like glass. If you walk out to the main road there is a shop selling souvenirs and drinks right across the street (we picked up some Hinano here). To your right hand side on the main road is Lucky's. Yum! We ate here twice and loved it all, especially the escargot. We tried Bloody Mary's but more for the name sake then the actual food. Though I would not give them a bad review. Eating with your toes in the sand is always fun. Be sure to catch the ferry to the Thalasso for the 2pm Sting Ray feeding. Don't forget your water shoes as sea urchins can be found anywhere on the island. And bring lots of sunblock. I tan fairly quick and went thru 2 bottles easily. All in all this place is amazing! The location is truly paradise, the resort and its staff are wonderful. I could not have asked for more.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013 via mobile

This is my last day here in Bora Bora. I came for my honeymoon after 5 dats in Moorea.

The first thing I have to say is that in these days the weather was bad: extremely windy and sometimes rainy as well.

The wind was so strong that it was difficult to sleep (we were staying in a beautiful overwater junior suite), it was almost impossible to spend some time on the beach.

The good thing was that everyday we could take a free boat and go to the other Intercontinental, which is absolutely fantastic and less windy, thanks to its position.

Anyway, the breakfast at morning was OK and dinner really delicious.

At the end, considering that from what I have understood, here is very likely to be so windy, I would reccomend the other Intercontinental hotel, even if it is more expensive.

Dear Alberto G,

Weope you gad a safe trip back home and feel sorry thzt you were not able to enjoy Bora Bora during your honeymoon because of the weather conditions.

Travelling in the Southern Hemisphere at this time of the year can be wonderfull or windy. The island of Bora Bora is located in the archipelago " iles sous le vent" and as you have seen we are not the only hotel in Bora Bora to suffer from this wind called here “Maramu”.

Regarding the location of our Sister property Resort, you understood that only two or three hotels located in this area InterContinental Thalasso are more sheltered but all 5 star hotels practicing very different rates of ours . I understand and I am saddened the first, for now 7 days the wind was particularly violent which is quite unusual. Don't think that thi wind is blowing all year around. August was a very nice month without wind. In contrast, customers at the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa appreciate especially to take advantage of our facilities on periods of high temperatures (between January and March / April), when the wind is almost zero. I would add that our Hotel is renowned and recognized as enjoying an exceptional location on the lagoon of Bora Bora, and the most beautiful beach of the island.

InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort is a 4 star hotel renowned for its friendly atmosphere. Our customers choose for its traditional and authentic feeling and are especially appreciating its human scale. Often described as a "family" atmosphere, we owe the honour of receiving a regular returning clientele each year. I can understand that you can not enjoy the hotel at fair values on the basis of weather conditions.

Yours sincerely,

We just got back from our honeymoon that we spent in Bora Bora. The whole time we stayed at the Intercontinental Le Moana Resort and we could not have been happier. We loved every minute of it! First, the rooms are amazing! We stayed in an over the water bungalow and thought it was awesome. You can open up the coffee table and feed the fish below. Every day we did this (multiple times:)) and we were amazed every time at the amount and variety of fish we saw below.**They sell fish food at the gift shop but just bring your leftover bread from meals-the fish love it!! Plus the water color and something I still cannot get over. Amazing color and clarity plus you are steps away from your porch. Perfect depth for snorkeling or if you just want to hang out by your bungalow and cool off. The service was great. All the staff treat you so nice, you feel like family. The location is great. Right down the road (in easy walking distance) is a small grocery store where you can get wine, beer, extra snacks, etc One of the best public beaches on the island is right across from the property and the best place to watch the sunsets:) Plus if you choose to do any excursions since you are located on the main island everyone can just come and pick you up at the front desk instead of having to arrange water shuttles. Lots of water activities-plus all at no charge. Lots of great restaurants around in case you would like something different. We went to Bloody Mary's and the excursion desk took care of our reservations and arranged a free shuttle to pick us up. We were there for the show and buffet on Saturday night and it was great. The show alone was great entertainment plus the buffet offered lots of choices and variety. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants to visit Bora Bora and enjoy the best of everything!!!!

We stayed in an Overwater Bungalow and the room was amazing. Glass coffee table which you can open to see the fish around the coral underneath. The water just steps away from your porch, directly accessible from your room. The location is far from the airport, but it is located on the main island so it is close to excursion places or the main village. For all the other resorts on their own islands, you have to take a boat shuttle to the main island so it gets tricky with timing. You also have free shuttle access to the sister resort, the Thalasso, so that's a bonus.

Room Tip: Even the least expensive level of overwater bungalows are amazing so you don't really need to s...

This place is the best place in the world, food, service, people, environment, accommodations. The best and my most favorite place. The rooms are so luxurious, the overwater bungalows are the best bang for your buck. The people at this particular resort treat you like family. And you absolutely feel like family.

Dear Joan4632013 Iaorana,

I have no word to thank you for this wonderfull review, specialy because your last stay was in october 2012. You still have such memories of your stay with us. Yes this is indeed a family for all the guests who have put their feet in the Polynesian "shoes" I should say flip flap. You did understand the different philosophy of their living and our people are so kind and friendly that you feel part of the family.

Thank you again, with the hope to welcome you backin your home away from home.

This was our second spot after Moorea. The service was amazing. Our welcome and check in was perfect and laid back after the boat ride from the airport. Our over water bungalow was outstanding. The coffee table opened up to the planted reef below where we could feed the fish. The location was great just down the street from a market which sells all the supplies you need for the week. The other advantage we found is that being on the main island, you have easier access to the other great restaurants without having to take a boat over and then land transportation.

The service and timing of shuttles is spot on. The activities desk will arrange everything for you. Just use them because they have the connections to all the right people and will arrange all the transfers.

The water is something I've never seen in my life. The shades of blue are unreal.

The breakfast is great. Many options and hearty eating that will keep you satisfied until lunch. The dinner BBQ and show is also not to miss. They offer beef, chicken, and fish on the grill as well as many other dishes and sushi. The show starts around 7:45-8 and is pretty good. No fire show, but pretty authentic. They also offer pictures with the dancers after. Get reservations from the activity desk in advance for a table up close!

Get fish food from the goods shop to feed your fish though the coffee table in your room. It's also good when you check out some snorkel gear and snorkel under your bungalow while feeding fish. Bring an underwater camera/video camera or a waterproof bag to take some awesome shots as well.

The location is great to get to local restaurants outside of the resort. We visited La Bounty, Mai Kai, and Bloody Marry's. La Bounty is good and open on Sundays (not many open Sundays). They offer everything from pizza to a fish and meat table top grill. Mai Kai is also known as the Yacht Club offers great service and amazing daily specials made up by the Host's wife. Grandma's mashed potatoes are pretty good and sashmi is amazing. Bloody Marry's is all what you hear. Walk in and see the fish of the day. I got the lobster and tuna combo for 7500. It was good.

If leaving the IC Moana late, you can check out of your room and hang around on the property until your boat transfer to the airport. They offer travel showers to clean up just before departing this way you can still enjoy the beach all day until your flight and shower right before.

The spa is located at the other IC across the harbor. You have to take the shuttle over.

The shuttle to town is nothing special. You can get souvenirs but no cheaper than anywhere else.

Room Tip: Over water bungalows are AMAZING! the blue water is nothing I've ever seen before. The sand ou...

Food was good. But service at the local Lucky's Pizza was better. First the waiter who bearly seemed a day of 18 got my drink order wrong. I asked for a gin martini, straight up, no ice. I got a glass full of ice with white sweet vermouth. Then he took our order including desert. It took a long time for the dishes to be cleared and we were asked 3 times again what we wanted for desert. They took away the desert fork, then after a long while finally desert came out. No cutlery. Finally they came out with a soup spoon for the cake and single small scoop of ice cream. Now the wait for the dishes to be cleared and the bill. Entertainment at the hotel. Well there is a billard table to use free of charge, but good luck since the staff are using it in the evening. Water skiing, no way. They are closed during peak season. DVD's are available, but none in English. Even English movies do not allow the option for English. Netflex does not work here, so besides wishing I was at the Sofietl hotel across the bay with flashing lights, obiously they have a DJ and blogging about the bad dinning room service here, there is nothing to do. Like they say in Moorea, Bora Bora, is Boring, Boring.

Room Tip: Bring your own DVD's, Ipod player, go elsewhere for dinner
