Well it's going to hard to add to the previous review from travelista. My expectations may have been a little higher then hers/his since I've been to this property so many times.
I did have some challenges this trip that were more Tahiti/Bora Bora related than Club Med so I will cover them elsewhere.
Fred Dawance (Chef de Village) the general manager and his wife Rika left on October 8th for their new assignment at the Club on Okinawa, Japan. I visited Club Med Bora three times for a total of two months during Fred's stay in Bora and have to say he was one of the best managers I have had at a Club Med and will be missed.
His number 2, Matt who seems to keep things organized and working while Fred entertains us with his card tricks will be moving on too in December with a well deserved promotion as head of the ski team at Sohio Japan Ski Resort. I liked Matt and he will be missed too. But that's Club Med, new team every few years and I like the format.
I agree with "Travellista" the the front desk leaves something to be desired. However I think it's a language thing. I've "always" had problems at the front desk, but once they really understand what it is you want they will get it done. Kind of a CM front desk thing.
Food was great as usual. Guy who did some of the snorkling "Tim" is a part timer who is spending more and more time at the Club filling in here and there. I've known him for years and agree he is just a real nice helpful person.
I have to disagree with "Travellista" on the Club Med bed thing. They are not much but my back ache's seem to disappear down there so I love them. And I seem to sleep deeper and longer. I love them, but some don't.
The village was clean and grounds well kept. I was there at the same time as the previous poster and we got two weeks of perfect weather ending on rain and wind the evening we left. Really lucky. The locals commented on how dry the summer their winter had been and it showed. Mountains, etc. were almost brown. If someone started a fire it would go up like Calif.
Daniel Radigue arrived about a week before Fred's departure and is the new General Manager (Chef de Village). All I know about him is he has extensive experience managing Clubs and his last assignment was CM Martinique. He has a nice smile and I'm sure will run the place well for the next year or two. I haven't checked reviews on that Club but if you are thinking about Bora Club Med you may want too. The atmosphere at aClub Med is much more influenced by the staff than the average resort.
Only place I strongly disagree with Travellista is in regards to Chin/Chen. He is the hobie, surf sailing, etc manager. She/he liked him. I had written a review some time ago where I was critical of him. When I arrived at the village this trip I went first to the sailing area and stuck out my hand. With eyes burning he got right into my face yelling. I never said a word and left the area not to return the two weeks I was there. And sailing is my thing. I chose not to make an issue out of it because it would have come down to one of us having to leave the resort, and I just didn't want to upset the Apple Cart. Fred and Matt have enough daily challenges with out me in their face. However I won't return until he's gone so I can enjoy sailing again. Pretty sure that will be before my usual spring visit in April.
All in all another great Club Med Bora Bora visit. Being all inclusive with entertainment, sports activities, excellent food, clean rooms, beautiful view and of coarse an open bar and very active entertaining staff, it's the best deal on the planet.
