June, 2007, my wife and I went to Talkeetna and made an entire day of it. After a flightseeing tour of Mt McKinley with K2 Aviaiton, we spent the day shopping at the different shops and visiting museums. We ate breakfast and lunch at the Roadhouse and walked to a nearby river park for some great photographs of Mt McKinley. We also did a river boat ride with Mahay Riverboat Service, which offers scenic routes, fishing routes and white water adventures, whatever you choose. You find that not much has been written about Talkeetna because in order to visit it, you specifically have to drive on a road that dead ends into the town. But if you want to book a good flightseeing tour of Mt McKinley, float down a scenic river, experience some great fishing, visit unique shops, have one of the best breakfasts in Alaska (the Roadhouse), and talk to some of the most friendly locals I encountered in Alaska, take the dead end road to Talkeetna. This unique little town of Talkeetna is so enchanting and you will find yourself remembering it long after you leave.
