“Loved the cozy, friendly feel”

Talkeetna Roadhouse

We stayed in the back cabin, and my family loved it. Three nice beds (one is in a loft), a microwave, refrigerator and even a small tv (for videotapes) made it seem as if we were "roughing it" in luxury. The back room of the main building even has internet access and a nice reading area for guests. Yes, you have to share bathrooms with other guests, but there are severall bathrooms, and they are clean. The food, as well as the staff, is also wonderful.

We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at the Roadhouse, very comfortable and great breakfast & baked goods! However, try not to get room 5 upstairs next to the bathroom unless you want to hear everyone in the place "do their business" while you are in the room! Everything else was great!

This place was lovely. The room was basic but furnished cutely. The bathroom had a wonderful large tub with bubble bath to use. There was a common room which had books, couches and a fireplace which made it feel very homely. They also have a bakery attached which served yummy soup. All the staff there where very friendly and helpful.

Our family spent two days at Talkeetna Roadhouse in July and could not have been more delighted with the experience. The rooms were adorable...with wonderful period antiques. The place is renowned and exudes all of the charm of its long history as a climbers gathering spot and stop over for fantastic baked goods and home cooked breakfasts. It is definitely funky, so if funky, or a bit Bohemian is not to one's liking...it might not be the right fit. But for us the Roadhouse was sublime.

We wished the hotel staff could have been a tiny bit more personal and involved with guests staying there. We felt a bit unnoticed with everything else going on.

Talkeetna Roadhouse is, nonetheless, an Alaskan gem--not to be missed at least for a meal!!!

“Half-order was plenty!”

We stopped in for breakfast on our way to Denali and was advised by a lady in one of the nice souvenir shops to order a half-order for breakfast. Boy, was she right. The food was excellent and so plentiful for the money. I can't imagine anyone can actually finish a whole order of anything here. Breakfasts include juice and coffee. We ordered a cinnamon roll too since we heard they were so good. It's true! They have daily specials and on Sunday it was a raspberry and walnut hotcake. It filled the entire plate with lots of nuts and big, juicy berries cooked right in. The reindeer sausage and eggs were good too. Quaint setting with climbing memorabilia, maps and flags. Sitting family-style at tables for 8, allowed us to converse with some nice folks who were visiting from Anchorage. Warm and cozy, old place, fast, friendly service. We would definitely return to this town and this restaurant.
