“Loved it and a great view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

We stayed here on a whim and loved it. Great view of the Alaskan Mountain Range and our room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant was alright, everybody was very nice. If you stay here get the wake up call for the Northern Lights. The lodge will call your room if they come out. Would definitely stay here again.

On a clear day it is lovely to see the mountain. We stayed twice. Once it was raining and cloudy. Our not see the mountain, which was a bummer. Second time,it was awesome. Both restaurants are good. The rooms with mountain view are worth the extra $. Beautiful lobby with fireplace. Have a nice game room, which the kids loved on a rainy day. Laundry on premises was a nice touch. The concierge, John, was very knowledgable and helpful. Staff was very helpful too. Loved the way, they got our stuff from the train to our room - very seamless.

The views were AMAZING - everything else was mediocre. The room was dirty in my opinion - we saw lots of hairs that didn't belong to us in the bathroom. The hotel allows smoking right outside the rooms, even places ash trays there so smoke drifted in through the door several times during our two-night stay. YUCK! The beds were only ok and nothing really stood out for the price. I would liken this to a Best Western or such, not a high-end hotel as the price suggests. We stayed many places on our trip to Alaska and loved them all - I was most disappointed by this one.

As part of a land tour we were here for one night, although could have stayed much longer if our toured allowed. Our rooms were very clean, comfortable, thick towels and great toiletries. Bedding was just luxurious. Looking out our window to the Denali mt range and the Mt. Itself was awesome. Yes during our entire stay we had Mt. McKinley looking back at us!!!! Staff were attentive to all our needs
There is outdoor decking to enjoy and a huge stone fireplace in the main lobby. It's located outside of town, which gives you a sense of serene relaxation. Shuttles are available, dinning on site, food very good. Very lovely experience.

Another winner booked by Michelle Slowik with Explore Tours. I wish there was a place to rate tour companies because I would give Michelle an outstanding review along with Explore Tours. Not a single glitch in our entire two weeks. It is worth staying at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge just to see the 46 foot fireplace made with river rocks. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: We were on the second floor of the McKinley Lodge building with a great view of the mountain and a V...

The lodge has two buildings that are attached....if you're lucky enough to view the Great One...pay the extra for a room on the rear side that faces Denali. The photo shots are breathtaking. There's two rear large decks for great photo taking. The rooms are very nice for rustic Alaska. Their towels are plush and soft. We ordered breakfast off the menu instead of their buffet...you're in Alaska-you'll pay more here-but just accept that fact-if you can afford a cruise/land tour to Alaska--book this for you room while in the area. They provide a shuttle to town which makes it nice to get to Talkeetna.

Room Tip: Rooms on the rear side offer views of Denali if it's in view.
