“Pleasant stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

We just stayed the one night while catching up with family. Very clean accommodation and great location. So close to the beach, the shops and great restaurants. Only downside really was that there was four adults and one child, and the toilet had no handle or lock!!!! Also we were given just four towels. On the plus side though, it was very quiet and the beds comfortable and warm.

Hi Phill

Orewa Motor lodge sets the benchmark on all aspects, excellent accommodation, cleanliness,
accessibility to shops, restaurants and beach. and to all points of the compass. Phill and Karene give their all to their guests, great folk. So good my wife and I stayed three nights. If you play golf talk to Phill, has even spare set of clubs. Thanks again Phill and Karene you made our stay most enjoyable.

Have stayed here before and consistently good. All rooms are side on to the road - so you don't get the road noise. We had a studio with outdoor seating in the garden, just what we wanted.Literally a 2 minute walk to the Orewa shops and services. Lovely, spotlessly clean Lockwood units.Free-wifi voucher, and especially important - friendly and helpful reception.

Room Tip: I asked for a "quiet room" as far from road as possible, and that's what we were given...

My husband, myself and our 23 year old son stayed at the orewa motor lodge for one night on our way to the bay of islands and coming from Tauranga. We loved Orewa for its neatness, well layed out paths along the beach and the proximity of restaurants and take aways. The motel was exactly what one would visualise a kiwi motel to be like. Clean, a well layed out kitchen with everything you could need, separate toilet and shower room. Loved the pine panelling. Wifi and sky tv available too. Didn't use the spa but it looked clean and inviting. Our son had a bed in the living area and we had a queen bed in our room. Would recommend to anyone starting a trip from auckland airport or, like ourselves, for a stay over after a few hours drive.

Got warm welcome from the owner when we checked in and the double room was really nice. Quite large with Sky TV, a kettle, fridge, tea, coffee, kitchen, microwave, cooker and towels were provided. A short walk to the beach over the road or to the shop and restaurants down the road.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

We stayed here for four nights with our family of two adults and two kids. It was the first time we had stayed here. This is an old style motel but it was pretty clean and tidy. We had a two bedroom unit which had a kitchenette (with small fridge and full-sized oven) and bathroom with shower and separate toilet. One bedroom had a double bed and a single bed and the second bedroom had two single beds. In the lounge there was a two seater and a three seater couch. There was a small dining table but it was too big for the location and was really hard to use as it was squashed into the corner. It needed to be pulled out to enable anyone to sit at the end of the table, but this meant it was pushed in front of a doorway.

The location of the motel is great - straight across the road to the beach and it is also very close to the shops and local restaurants. We didn't have to use our car at all except for when we took a trip to Waiwera hot springs. While other motels may be located on the beach side of the road, I don't think there would be another motel as close to both the shops and the beach.

We paid $230 per night which seemed quite expensive for what was included. Housekeeping service is only a change of towels and replacing soap and shampoo, etc. They do not make beds and only change sheets every five days.

In the guest guide, they stated that they did not provide a complimentary newspaper and that we would have to order and pay for it the night before, but on two mornings we did get a newspaper delivered (free of charge) which was nice. They also stated washing dishes was not part of housekeeping service, which again is a bit odd.

There is a guest laundry which uses tokens and it was $2 to use the washing machine (plus $1 for powder if you did not bring your own). The dryer was $2 per half load which was not enough to dry a full load of washing so you would be paying $4 per dryer use if you wanted a whole load completely dried.

We received a discount voucher for Waiwera Hot Springs which was really good - $30 off a family pass, which meant we only paid $31 for the whole family.

There is a spa pool but we found it a bit run down and dirty. On the second day we used it, it smelt awful and left a lingering stink on our skin, even after showering so we didn't use it again after that. The motel requests that you do not use room towels, but they charge a fee of $2 per towel if you want to hire spa towels - I have never seen this in a motel before. Other motels always provide separate spa towels free of charge. Fortunately we had taken our own beach towels.

I have stayed in other similar sized, more modern motels and have received more value for money. Eg - dishwasher with powder provided and washer/dryer in bathroom with powder provided, free paper daily, biscuits provided along with tea and coffee, etc so I think OML could do a bit more in the way of providing more of these types of things. Also, I think it is fairly standard to make beds in a motel - that's one of the good things about being on holiday and not having to do any housework!

Room Tip: Check on discount travel sites before you go to see if you can get a better rate than what is offere...

I've stayed at this hotel twice, once in 2005 and also just recently. It's improved a lot in 6 years and it was pretty good to start with.

It's perfectly located and the room has everything you need for a shortish stay. My one slight issue was that there wasn't much space to put clothes and so many of mine stayed in my case.

I would recommend anyone looking to visit Orewa should stay here.
