“Great value, superb service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

Stayed at Le Meridien last week with a group of friends.

Travelled from Dubai airport, journey took one and a half hours, well-made roads, not sure about the reviewer who said it is not for the faint hearted! Maybe there are different routes, we organised a pickup with the hotel who charged 380 AED each way. Well worth it.

This is an extremely pleasant hotel, not amazing but very nice and with great service. There are mainly pros and just a few cons, based upon the different experiences within our small group.

Cons –

The luggage was misplaced for several hours which was a pain! We arrived at 10am in the morning check in was a little slow but we were offered a drink while we waited. Our luggage was whisked away and we were given a tag. We could not actually check in as the room was not ready, we were offered storage for our luggage and a complimentary breakfast. After breakfast we went to the luggage storage area and removed some beach wear so that we could enjoy the pool until the rooms were ready. I went back to check in at 2pm, was given the room key and told the luggage was in the room. Alas it was not, I spent 2 hours explaining that we were part of a group, the case was large and pink and easy to identify, several trolleys arrived at the door with other people’s luggage. Eventually, 2 hours later it was found, not the end of the world but it did become slightly worrying.

We booked months ago, 2 rooms and requested rooms next door to each other or at least on the same floor. I had the 2nd floor my friends had the 7th floor. Their experience was quite different to ours; suffice to say their room was extremely noisy, screeching children at 6am. Our room was very quiet. No idea why we could not be on the same floor at least, the hotel was not full.

WiFi – none available unless you pay, very disappointing.

Pros –

Extremely clean, the common areas and all of the toilets including the pool and beach toilets are cleaned every hour. There are Molton Brown toiletries in all of the toilets, including the beach, where there are also showers and lockers.

Pool attendants, lifeguards, bar staff in abundance and so so helpful, every single member of staff in every location really helpful.

Room massive, sea view and we only had the standard room, 2 large double beds, big walk in wardrobe and large bathroom. Complimentary water each day, kettle and tea and coffee in the room, also large flat screen TV and DVD player (mini bar - chargeable) in room safe, free of charge. Complimentary fruit each day.

Breakfast, excellent, great staff, cappuccinos to order, egg station, waffle station, healthy eating section, fresh orange juice, fresh bakery and pastries, all replenished regularly, in fact everything you could possible want and really good quality.

3 really clean pools, nice towels, and good quality sun loungers with clean cushions. At no stage did we see anything that needed to be replaced, all of the parasols are in great condition. Nice pool bars and beach bar. Very nice clean beach, lots of shade.

We ate in different restaurants each evening; they were all very good and very good service. The only one that was a let down was the Indian, Swad, the chicken was gristly and the so called house wine the most expensive in any of the restaurants, we only ate there once, whilst we liked Sapore and Gonu so much we went twice.

We used the Spa one morning, again very friendly staff they will even lend you trainers as long as you have socks !

All in all a great hotel, easy to get to, superb service, good food, great rooms unless you are unlucky enough to have an adjoining room and it’s got screeching kids who also have cartoons on the TV at its ultimate volume !

I would recommend and would definitely go back.

Passed by previously and was impressed so was happy when our daughter booked us in the time round after the race. Turned out to be very good - nice big rooms, great views, and associated dining and facilities. Found out on departure that our floor was about to be renovated soon - frankly after staying in many 4/5 star hotels in the ME / FE I couls not understand the reason - was not worn at all!

Room Tip: x01 to x05 and x15 to x20 - ones at outer end of floors have balcony.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your comments on Tripadvisor about your first stay in Le Meridien Al Aqah.

We are most pleased to read that you appreciated the spaciousness of our rooms. Indeed the rooms will be renovated this summer not because they are worn but mainly to modernize, align with the brands vision and implement more eco-friendly/sustainable products.

We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in Al Aqah in the foreseeable future.
Warm Regards,

Lara Keijzer

This property is about 10 years old now and the over all design shows it. That being said room renovations are great. I stayed in a club room that had been renovated and it was great, the breakfast was included as al a carte, so you did not have to deal with the buffet bunch , and there were after noon snacks in the club lounge so booking a club room was worth it.

The staff made the difference, they were focused on making your stay enjoyable. I had one issue in the beach side restaurant with a steak that was under done , to my surprise not only did they remove all charges for it but the manager knew there had been an issue when I checked out. The communication amongst the team obviously was good and they were transparent.

The hotel is big enough that you can escape the crowd and with Indian, Thai, Italian and cafe style food on offer there is enough to keep you interested . I went there to dive and would recommend that you limit your stay to 3 or 4 days max or you may get bored.

Room Tip: Club room high floor with an ocean view

This Hotel i can not fault all the staff are friendly and go out of there call of duty to help, we had dine all around package this saves you a lot of money eat and drink in any resteraunt for free any time of the day.

It is 100 miles from Dubai Airport Driving time is 2 hours your average speed is only 50 mph

It can be a bit tricky with the bad road signs and the sat nav loses its signal and the billy goates on the roads.

Room Tip: room with balcony number 106

Although I have been to Dubai on a few occasions, I had never heard of Fujairah, lying 175km away on the opposite side of the UAE peninsular. It seems to be best-known as an extensive cement producer, rather than a holiday resort. But having read good things about it, decided it was worth the step into the unknown - and we are delighted that we did.
The journey from Dubai to Fujairah is not for the faint-hearted, the standard of driving is...shall we say interesting, driving through desert and then the most rugged mountain scenery you'll ever see. It's a long old journey, and like me, you'll be hoping that the end result had better be good for the 2 and a half hours it takes to get there. It is. However, please make sure you go to the toilet before embarking on this journey!
The hotel is really striking in it's appearance, the rooms are so much nicer than the pictures on the website would lead you to believe, and the sea views (from every room I understand) are stunning. It is worth getting up at 7am to watch the sunrise, it's never the same twice.
We went on an all-inclusive package, which allowed us to use any of the restaurants. The Italian place, Sapore, has had some excellent reviews, which in my view are unwarranted. I was in a group of 6 and we had various dishes that we all agreed were ordinary at best. The Thai restaurant was by far the best, highly recommended. Swaad, the Indian restaurant, was okay, it had the tiniest selection of dishes I've ever seen in an Indian restaurant though! The beach restaurant, Gonu, was very good, particularly the steaks. The main restaurant, The Views, was pretty good, considering it was cooking so many dishes in its buffet selection.
Like many other reviews, I have to say that I was really impressed with the staff at the resort, they were from all corners of the world, so levels of English were variable (not that English people can be critical of that, as most of us don't speak anything else), but they were always friendly, courteous and willing to be helpful. I would have to say that they are as good as anywhere I have stayed.
Minor gripes...wifi was expensive, most top-end resorts include it in the package, fairly limited range of alcohol in the all-inclusive package - no cocktails was a bit of a downer. There were rather a lot of pesky flies when eating outside, which obviously isn't the hotels fault, but it would be nice to come up with some sort of solution. The little smoke pots work to a degree, but not really enough.
There seems to be a lot of activities happening throughout the day if you're the active kind of person, not that I am, but it is fair to say that it caters for everybody of all ages.
But it is a wonderful alternative to the chaos of Dubai and is well worth the arduous transfer from Dubai airport.
Everything

I must say that right from check in Le meridien is attentive to details and all the staff meet and greet guests with warmth. My stay was for three nights and the most outstanding service was from SAPORE RESTAURANT by chef CIRO who ensured that all the dishes presented tantalised my taste buds. The canapé right through to the desert was fabulous.Chef Ciro always checked back with us to see if the meal was tasty as per our expectation. Not to forget the waiter Liu who made sure that our orders were brought on time and table cleared on time. The housekeeper MELVIN also made our stay more comfortable by ensuring that the room was always immaculate. On our last night there was a good bye note from MELVIN that caught us by surprise and we were really impressed.I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who is attentive to details. For those who wish to try authentic Italian dishes away from home ask for chef CIRO he is your man.
