“Worth the walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2014

Unlike some previous contributors we visited Caunos in the heat of the day so our walk, after the row across the river, was slow and hot. This is the second time of visiting and each time we have bought local bread, cheese and meat and had a picnic sitting in the shade of an olive tree. The picnic has been our reward after climbing up the small(er) crag to see the wonderful view across the delta to the beach. Take the time to just sit and absorb the atmosphere and try to spot the wildlife- birds, lizards and turtles. After the walk back to get the boat pause to have some fresh juice – try a mixed orange and pomegranate – so refreshing.

“Quaint little trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2014

You have the option of booking a trip or DIY! We chose the latter and caught the row boat at the far end of town across to the other side. It takes about 1/2 hour to walk up stony path past little houses selling fresh homemade produce, really lovely but very very hot although it was about 10am! Reached the ruins and they are steeped in history with some lovely roman architecture, but as with most of Turkey Greece and Cyprus they have not been preserved as well as they could have been! Still an interesting cheap day out though (cost approx £10 for two of us) finished off with a lovely tractor ride back to the waiting row boat!

“Stunning ruins”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2014

Just a quick rowboat ride across the river...and a 15 minute walk. It's amazing to think that Kaunos is still mostly buried as it is so vast. Climb a little near the ampitheatre and You will be rewarded with a great view of the river Delta and the dolmus taking tourists to the beach. Would have liked a brochure to give some history of the place.

“Worth a visit!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

Worth a visit if your interested in the history of Dalyan or just want to se the amazing views from the top of the ancient theatre. Would recommend leaving early as it gets very hot at the top of these ruins and also becomes busy with groups of tourists. We arrived at the river to be rowed over at 8 am and after the twenty minute walk on the other side had the place almost to ourselves. It's 10tl per person to get in which we weren't aware of but it's worth it.

“early bird”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

Get up early to be rowed across the river. Don`t have breakfast until you get back from visiting the fabulous hillside fort and ruins - you will relish the fresh orange and pancakes so much more.
Try and get to fort by 9 am at latest as the heat can be unbearable by midday and spend time soaking up the history - take a bottle or 2 or water, one frozen overnight is a great tip.
The boat across the river, entrance and pancake breakfast is a real bargain at under £10
