“Great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

We only stayed for one night but it was just perfect for us. Very clean, cozy, quiet , warm and very pretty. The staff very friendly and helpfull when we needed information about restaurants and so on. Downstairs they have a bar where they serve breakfast in the morning and drinks by night. We had no noise problems as we stayed on the second floor . The locationwas great just near san vicente gate and basilica san vicente. I really recommend this hotel.

We didnt plan to visit Avila but it was a useful overnight stop on our way thro Spain travelling to Santander. This hotel was mentioned in Lonely Planet as having parking so we opted for it. Didnt pre book but they found us a room. Very small, but a twin which we were also offered was larger. Good bathroom and nice and warm - was a freezing cold night. Restaurant bar was below our room and open late but didnt bother us too much. Could have been different at a much busier time! Pleasant town with impressive walls. Good for l night. Good breakfast. It is simple to find being located just inside the walls at puerte de San Vicente but we were tired and did our usual 4 times tour of the city before we did!

We booked direct with the hotel for a room with breakfast and parking. The situation of the hotel was very good - The 1st hotel on the left when you come through the Archway of San Vicente. All the sites were near by and had no problem walking to them. Our room was at the back and reasonable quiet but there is a bar downstairs, where we had breakfast, that can be noisy at night sometimes when people come back to their rooms. On our first morning breakfast was awful - 1 croisante and 1 roll with coffee but after that it was a help yourself buffet which was better. It would be easier if they had coffee/hot water flasks to make your own coffee but unfortunately you had to ask the waiter who was a bit miserable as he also had to deal with people checking out, therefore you had to wait for your coffee/tea!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back possibly on the 2nd floor.

We walked here from the train station, 12 min. As soon as we entered the gate, there it was. Very nicely decorated rooms, and it even included breakfast. We thought it may be a bit noisy being beside the gate but this was not the case. As soon as the daytrippers left, the town was very quiet. So we opted for a room with a view of the walls, as opposed to the interior courtyard. Almost all staff spoke english which helped. Avila is small so you can pretty much cover the entire town in one day. I do recommend going to quatro postes about 2 hours before sunset so catch the magic of the sun setting on the city walls and town. At the opposite end of town and across the river, but it is a magical walk. You'll see a trail once you're up there going across a small pathway across the river. Take that back instead of the road. Walk around the city walls at night as well as they are well lit up.

Room Tip: quiet town at night so every room would be good

We booked directly with the hotel by phone. When we arrived in Avila it was very easy to find and we were welcomed by the couple who ran it. They were very friendly and helpful. There was snow outside but everything was very warm inside. Our room was not large but very clean and perfectly adequate. We could not fault the bathroom at all. It was clean with as much hot water as we could need.
The location just inside the old city walls meant that we could wander the atmospheric streets of the old town at night and visit bars without being too far from our hotel at any time.
Great value for the location and we plan to return there later this year.

This place is just inside the walls of the old town, so easy to locate. They have their own parking, or on sundays (and festivals) you can park for free just outside the walls. We had booked through Venere and asked for a quiet room, and were given one that faced onto the small courtyard at the back - still a little street noise but not too bad. We didn't notice any of the noise from other rooms reported by other reviewers. The room was fairly small but adequate for a short stay.
Breakfast was pretty good; a buffet with bread, pastries, fruit, ham, cheese, juice, tea, coffe...
Our visit coincided with the feast of Santa Teresa. The helpful woman on reception suggested (without us asking) that we might like to see the procession on the evening before, when all the local associations and individuals present flowers to the saint at the old city gates. This was very useful advice and we had plenty of opportunity to see the procession with many people in traditional dress, with dancing and music. Next morning was the big church service and procession of the saint through the streets, accompanied by more loud music and several amazing giant figures each dressed as people from assorted countries (japonese, indian, a 'moor', spanish etc) which danced and amused the crowds in the packed streets. Great spectacle!

I must have missed something but this hotel was a nightmare. The rooms were tiny, worn and dirty. The noise from the street was unbearable. We could here the man snoring in the next room. The garage door kept opening and banging all night long. We maybe got one hour sleep. In two words "a dump."
