Having read other reviews we were a little worried about our stay here. We shouldn't have been. The staff were excellent, the parking was not difficult in the hotel car park, a little costly but totaly secure in the center of an historic city, that has little parking. Worth it
The rooms we had on the first floor, were not large but nicely appointed, warm and cosy; nothing looked "lack lustre" quite the contrary.
No complaints, in fact we thought it great value for money and will return soon.

Used this destination as a rest stop after long flight from Seattle in to Madrid as our plan was to get out of the city. Beautiful walled in city with easy to find hotel in the middle of everything. Twenty minute free parking in front of the hotel for check in. Garage parking at hotel was $16. We were in room 229 (Standard Room) that had 4 or so steps down in to the room (there is a lift in hotel which was nice). Adequate bathroom but awkward shower with little room. Room was clean and had a safe and a fridge with pay-for-use items. The alley noise at night was a bit much. Hotel service was very good. We had a nightcap at the restaurant which was fine, but the breakfast buffet the next morning was spectacular and quite a nice spead and assortment of meats, eggs, breads, that left us satisfied.

We visit the hotel off season to take advantage of the availability. The hotel is pretty; however, the staff lacks customer service. We had drinks waiting for the restaurant to open and were playing a game of cards. The waitress asked us to leave because management did not see it appropriate for their hotel. Before we try to gather all of the cards we were approached again! to ensure we were leaving the waiting area. The rooms are small, the pillows old and depleted. The toilet is behind the door; therefore, constant caution had to be used and one person at a time. The registration staff did not have a clue of the system. The entire staff was not helpful, the place is lonely. It is close to the cathedral, with in walking distance. However, many more hotels were in the same place and equal distance.

Hotel palacio de Los Velada is located inside the walls of Avila. The city is beautiful; however, the service in the hotel is much to be desired. To get the attention of the waiter was horrible. We stayed two nights, and both nights the wait staff acted as if it was a chore to wait on us. We tried to get the attention, and they ignore us. The hotel was 20% occupancy. We were one of two tables both nights. The rooms are small and uncomfortable, the pillows are old, the bed is lumpie, the bathroom toilet is behind the door (careful when opening the door) and the mold smell of the room is stronger at night. The place has it own beauty, but the accommodations and customer service still back in the era it it started.

Room Tip: AC hotel in Burgos has a much better value and it is also located inside of the old town. Their serv...

This hotel, located just inside the city walls of Avila and across the plaza from the cathedral is a gem! Beautiful glass enclosed atrium and dining areas (separate) are the perfect place to relax and wind down after an afternoon of exploring this quaint city by foot. You will want to try to see all the interesting things inside the city walls, but don't forget to walk outside the walls as well, both in the day and at night as the lighting is fantastic. The hotel has great rooms, great service and could not be located any better. Price, for Spain is reasonable, but if you make your reservations from the US before you go, it will save you about 25% versus a walk-in. You will need reservations in the summer months!

A tastefully converted 16th Century palace, within the walls of Avila and adjacent to the cathedral, this hotel offers comfort in opulent surroundings, whilst at a price comparable to some UK motels.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the bathrooms, elegant and spotlessly clean.
The location is perfect for visiting the many attractions of Avila, many of which are within walking distance.
Driving within the walls, on the narrow streets of Avila, is not something I can recommend, so the underground carpark of the hotel is a useful facility. it does currently cost 16 euros a day, but it is money well spent, although it cannot be pre-booked, which could be a problem if the hotel is full.
At some time during your stay, you must spend time in the covered, cloistered courtyard. It is a beautiful airy space and an ideal place to relax and have morning coffee, evening drinks, or an excellent meal. We had a superb lunch at a reasonable price.
Breakfast is served in a different, but still elegant, cafeteria. The full buffet breakfast is not cheap at 12 euros, although a typical continental breakfast option at 5 euros is avalable.
We stayed for two nights and found the staff attentive and accommodating.
The reception desk staff appear to be multi-lingual and speak excellent English.
As we only had time for two nights and didn't get to see as much as we would have liked in Avila, we will be planning another trip at some time and we will certainly be staying in this hotel again.

Stayed here last August during one of those typical central-Spanish heat waves. We just loved the hotel! We paid about 65 euro which was a very good price for this 4 stars hotel. The hotel is located inside the Avila walls and very easy reachable by car. There is a parking for about 15 euro but if you prefer to not pay, staff can advice you publish non-paying parking places close by. The room was under the roof, at the back of the hotel (could be a bit annoying for people with heavy suitcases or that have it a bit difficult to walk) and was spacious and romantic. The window was small but gave a beautiful sight over the city roofs. It was therefore not a very sunny room, which I can imagine that in winter time it would be disturbing. But for us it was not a problem, as it kept the heat outside. The rooms were very clean, as well as the bathroom. There is a beautiful inside patio at the entrance where you can take a drink and can eat something, it's not cheap, but stylish and romantic it is. The breakfast was good and not too expensive (I think about 12 euro for a buffet) and was served in the lovely orangerie. The building itself is beautiful: rough and antique, gives you the feeling of being in the Middle Ages. Conclusion: perfect for a romantic getaway, even if you are on a budget.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room at the back of the hotel, which could be annoying to reach for people with lots...
