“Perfect choice”

Palacio de los Velada

Well, this is probably the best price for value we had in Castille.
Location is perfect, in front of the Cathedral, could not be better. The hotel is a big think of 150 rooms, but you really don't feel it, seems a boutique hotel. The old building has been carefully upgraded and renovated (pics are on display about the work, it is impressive). The covered patio (courtyard) is stunning, perfect for a quiet drink, rooms are nicely decorated.
Staff was OK, nothing special to say, good or bad. Only (small) bad point would be the ugly false patio that they use for breakfast, but this is a very minor criticism.
Definitely a place to recommend.

We stayed here for one night in late September. The hotel is beautiful, and our room was very nice but was quite small. The staff was very accommodating. The hotel has an attached parking garage, which is very convenient -- but be warned that the hotel does not guarantee spaces in garage for all of its guests. Access to the garage is based on availability. We had absolutely no problems in this regard, but imagine it could be an issue for others. Avila is a very interesting city. We highly recommend Las Cancelas for dinner. Avila was much colder than the other places we visited, so bring warm clothes!

Stayed here 2 nights and enjoyed it very much. The hotel is fairly easy to get to by car and has the benefit of a parking garage. Being so well located in the Cathedral plaza, parking is none existant so this garage is essential if you are touring by car.

The hotel is an old palace, beautifully converted and quite large. The hub of the hotel is a glazed in courtyard that serves as a bar/lounge and is popular with locals and tourists alike so it is great for people watching! We were there over a weekend and two wedding receptions utilized this courtyard almost one after the other. These did curtail space available for us to sit in but were fascinating to watch!

Check in was smooth and efficient and our room was large, well furnished with an ornately carved beamed ceiling. There was a huge comfortable bed with premium linens, a/c, mini bar and TV. The lighting was very good too - cosy and atmospheric. The bathroom was large, with bright blue tiles, very Spanish looking. The towels were large and thick and the toiletries top quality. There were even fresh flowers in the bathroom! The room was in good condition and had new deep pile carpet that added to the luxurious air.

Breakfast was in another glazed over courtyard and was perfectly adequate with a hot and cold selection. There could have been a little more attention to keeping the food covered - lots of flies were darting over unprotected dishes.

We had dinner one evening in the hotel restaurant, La Tostada. It is small but very plush with a refined atmosphere. The service was first class , so it was all the more disappointing to have a not very good meal although there was an excellent wine list.

The reception staff were very helpful when we asked about driving out to visit the castle at Coca and despite dealing with wedding party guests, asked if we enjoyed our trip when we got back - a nice personal touch.

Great hotel, nicely restored in a fascinating walled city. The rooms were comfortable, with non-chain hotel furniture, and very comfortable beds. Front desk staff very helpful. Far better than the average chain. Excellent value for the price.

An excellent hotel with excellent facilities and food, right in the centre of the city. There is a good supermarket but it is a bit of a treck, a short cab ride is the best solution. Supermercardo.
