“Pretty Good for Price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

The best thing I liked about Lotus Hotel was the price - I paid $7 for a room with 2 double beds and a window (with some negotiation), but there are $6 window-less rooms. The room was pretty clean, very big, only downside was the lack of hot water. The location is pretty good, the property is on the busiest street in Sapa, although it gets very noisy in the evenings.

The staff, however, speak little to no English, and we're pretty rude. For laundry, I was quoted one price, but was charged triple the rate at check-out. When I started to dispute the discrepancy, I was yelled at in Vietnamese. Not a pleasant experience, but that's low budget traveling Vietnam for you.

Overall, I would recommend the hotel for extreme budget travelers. If you have a little more to spend, there are far better options.

..found it quite good and reasonable , costs $10 per night and has 9.30am checkout ,manageress was very helpful is multi-skilled (books accomodation, tours, buses, trains, daytreks, servers food at their restaurant and speaks good english .... I don't think she cooks the food as well) ...if you book an overnight sleeper bus , the pickup to the main bus-stop is organised by her an a co-worker , this involved myself jumping on the back of her little motorbike with a large suit case and hanging onto her, whilst it was struggling to go up the hill towards the coach pickup point...for my wife who had to ride with her co-worker ...it was the first time on a motor bike ...my wife thought they were joking when they took us to the street and said ..get on .. in the it was exhilarating and was a memorable finish to our stay there.... they sure know how to get the job done ..

Room Tip: all similiar rooms all quite bright , no lifts ..

Great value hotel right in the middle of backbacker area in Sappa.Room had 2 beds 1 double &one single /24hr hotwater/wifi in room and good fast conection/Tv with english channels including news and movie channels/room serviced each day/cleaning staff exellent/great views from the balcony on upper floors/we paid $10 usd but depending on the day of the week you could probably do a little better but i think $10 usd for this room was very fair,we managed to get a late chekout till 4pm to catch night train to Hanoi for no extra cost. Will be back again to stay here

Room Tip: One of the upper flooors great views and tables and chairs to sit at and enjoy a beer

Mixed feelings about this one: we got one of the rooms in back for 10$ and were told that the front rooms were 15$. No bargaining was possible even when we tried to get a lower price after the weekend, so we left to stay in another hotel, since we found out that other people were staying in the bigger better rooms at the front for 7$! The room was clean (and cleaned daily) but damp and a bit smelly. Book exchange is good and upon request we immediately got a huge bottle of hot water. Wifi did not work in the room. Altogether not a very pleasant memory of the place, although it was not dramatic enough to give it the lowest rating.

Room Tip: Front rooms are the better and should not cost you more than 7 or 8 $.

This hotel was the worst we've been during 4 months traveling in Southeast Asia. The electricity kept failing everytime, it was rare when we got hot water, and the rooms very dirty, not clean and so humid that our sheets were wet and our clothes didn't dry! One day the owner tell us we had to go out because one big group of Vietnamese was coming! We couldn't believe we were being evicted without a decent reason. Besides that, the owner was really arrogant and rude when she kicked us off! Sapa is really nice and deserves a peaceful visit.

I didnt have to haggle at all here. Owner gave us a generous price $6 straight away, for a room with a double bed and 1 single bed, 1 bathroom.
Room was clean and very well furnished. Balcony had amazing views.

Helpful for organising buses, laundry

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel and cannot speak more highly of it. Accommodation has good sized rooms is spotlessly clean and tidy and staff really friendly and helpful, rooms cleaned and bedding and towels changed daily. Trips and onward travel bookings can be arranged at reception for reasonable prices so no need to waste time chasing around Sapa looking for cheaper options. The breakfast was great each morning freshly cooked and a nice choice. The staff once again was wonderful and they always take care us and friendly towards our requirements. Expecially thanks Joshep so much. Anyway to sum up a great hotel and good location - we wouldn't hesitate to return again. Strong recommended this hotel.
