5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2011

Lovely owner, who makes the guests feel comfortable - even looks for the best baguettes to offer for breakfast. As Sapa can be quite freezing sometimes, the heated blankets are a highlight. The next time we would definitely try his new hotel Sapa Garden Lodge, which is more outside but the pictures look great!
So for the 25 Dollar you pay it is definitely the best place to go!

My girlfriend and I stayed here last June.

I booked the hotel via email and had constant contact with Mr Nam Hong, nothing was ever any trouble.

Our room was great nice and with a balcony, lovely clean and tidy.
Breakfast is standard, same as you get anywhere.

The girls will even make you a nice cup of tea when you get back from trekking which was lovely, nothing was any bother to them....Great staff

Mr Ham Hong also organised our return tickets with Livitrans, hotel room, and our trekking, we never paid a cent until we checked out.

We will be staying there again this December ( 2011), and Mr Nam Hong has also organised everything for me once again.

I have stayed at Thai Binh twice and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time. Nam (the owner) is the best person in town to know if you are looking to travel around Sapa, to nearby areas of Vietnam or even to cross the border into China.

The rooms are very comfortable, clean and well-decorated. After the journey to Sapa, it is a splendid place to get some rest. Additionally, the greeting area of the hotel is a great place to relax and has a fireplace to gather around during some of the chilly nights that occur in Sapa. One other thing that makes the hotel nice is that while it is in the center of town, it is tucked away in a little alley that ensures that it is more quiet and peaceful than other hotels in Sapa.

Lastly, the food at Thai Binh is delicious traditional home-cooked Vietnamese cuisine. I have stayed at a number of guesthouses in Asia and this is certainly one of the best out there, especially considering the reasonable price.

Hi

Thank you so much for your nice comment about our little hotel. We are so please to hear that what we had done was the right thing to make your nice stay in Sapa. We always listen and improve our service.

However, to avoid misunderstanding for other guests, please note that we donot have restaurant in our hotel. We can only arrange your dinner at weekend if you would like to join with my family to cook first hand Vietnamese food.

Best regard

Nam Hong

My teenage children and I stayed at Thai Binh in January. The breakfast was adequate, the rooms were spacious and clean and the beds were comfortable with cosy bedding and lovely warm electric blankets - essential for January!
Nam Hong was the perfect host. He took us to a local village (for a guide's fee) and recommended a lovely restaurant for us, which he says he doesn't get a commission for and I believe him.

Nam Hong organised our Livitrain tickets, transfers and Bak Ha Market tour. All that I had to do was pick my train tickets from a hotel in Hanoi and pay him for everything when I checked out - very easy.

On our departure, Nam Hong discounted our room price because a neighbour had purchased dogs the day before which barked all night. Nam Hong himself knocked on their door a couple of times throughout the night to ask them to put the dogs inside
It was lovely of him to discount our bill, it's not like it was his fault that the dogs were barking. That evening as we awaited in a restaurant in Lao Cai for our train to Hanoi, Nam Hong had organised for us to be in his friend's restaurant. His friend took our ticket vouchers to the train ticket office for us and exchanged them for actual tickets to save us any confusion.
Nam Hong emailed me the next day to inform me that the dogs have gone now so it shouldn't be a problem for future Thai Binh guests.

The room was adequate. Good to have shower enclosed in a bath and not wetting the whole bathroom! We just had one small issue in that the insertion of the plastic key for power was a little temperamental. We got it working, though. Other than that, everything about the place was functional, adequate, and good value. We appreciated the cozy fireplace downstairs as we were there for the first snow in 8 years!

We went to Sapa and were planning on staying at a hotel with a nice view. We looked at Thai Binh because it got good Trip Advisor reviews. After one look at the room, I decided we didn't need the view. It is one of the few hotels that has heaters in the room (essential) and also electric blankets. The mattress was lovely and soft and we sank into it and had a lovely warm doona (duvet) on top. Unlike other hotels, the room did not smell of mould and the bath/shower had a curtain so the bathroom didn't get soaked. Breakfast was quite nice in the reception area with an open fire. The staff were friendly and the owner who spoke great English was really cool. This is a really nice place and worth the $25/night.

I picked this hotel after reading the reviews on trip advisor and Thai Binh lived up to expectations. The hotel is sitated behind the white church in the square. When you reach the sign for the vietnam trade union hotel turn left. The hotel is 1st on the right.
The reception is warm and welcoming as are the staff. The room itself would not be out of place in a European ski resort. It is clean and very cosy looking. The heater and electric blanket provided help keep it a good temperature. The hotel was lovely and quiet at night and the mattress was one of the softest we have found in Vietnam.
Thoroughly recommended.
