My wife and I had a short trip to Sapa and spent 2 days in the Green Bamboo Hotel. The hotel staff provided us with extra special service. We stayed in Room 307 - a nice corner room with a balcony that looks out over the valley below. The room was clean and neat. The day starts with a nice buffet breakfast. The fried sweet potatos and fresh fruit pulled us back to he buffet for more. We organized two treks through the front desk at the hotel. The first tour was to the Cat Cat Village and on the second day we visited three Hmong tribes. Wonderful hikes (especially climbing up hill) that did a good job of burning off all the food we ate for breakfast.
Besides the buffet at the restaurant in the morning, we ate at the hotel restaurant three times. Each time we had something different and very unique. The nem Hanoi, stir fried cai lan with garlic, beef and potato, stir fried su su (chayote - sliced sideways) and the fried tofu were especially good.
As an additional surprise there was an ethnic entertainment show in the evening demonstrating the song and dance from many of the Hmong communities in the area. For computer junkies there was free internet service with two computers in the lobby. If you have a wireless hook up you can sit in the lounge area, sip complementary tea or coffee in the morning and stay connected to news and family on your computer. The hotel staff also coordinated our trips to and from Lao Cai to catch the train. Everything was comfortable and on schedule.
The hotel was listed as a three star hotel. When combining the hotel features we thought he value was excellent.
Our memories will be of the incredibly awesome view while sitting on the restaurant lounge eating our early dinner watching the setting red sun burning through the fog at the top of the Xiopang mountains. We will also never forget the freindly and accomodating staff.
