5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2009

My wife and I had a short trip to Sapa and spent 2 days in the Green Bamboo Hotel. The hotel staff provided us with extra special service. We stayed in Room 307 - a nice corner room with a balcony that looks out over the valley below. The room was clean and neat. The day starts with a nice buffet breakfast. The fried sweet potatos and fresh fruit pulled us back to he buffet for more. We organized two treks through the front desk at the hotel. The first tour was to the Cat Cat Village and on the second day we visited three Hmong tribes. Wonderful hikes (especially climbing up hill) that did a good job of burning off all the food we ate for breakfast.

Besides the buffet at the restaurant in the morning, we ate at the hotel restaurant three times. Each time we had something different and very unique. The nem Hanoi, stir fried cai lan with garlic, beef and potato, stir fried su su (chayote - sliced sideways) and the fried tofu were especially good.

As an additional surprise there was an ethnic entertainment show in the evening demonstrating the song and dance from many of the Hmong communities in the area. For computer junkies there was free internet service with two computers in the lobby. If you have a wireless hook up you can sit in the lounge area, sip complementary tea or coffee in the morning and stay connected to news and family on your computer. The hotel staff also coordinated our trips to and from Lao Cai to catch the train. Everything was comfortable and on schedule.

The hotel was listed as a three star hotel. When combining the hotel features we thought he value was excellent.

Our memories will be of the incredibly awesome view while sitting on the restaurant lounge eating our early dinner watching the setting red sun burning through the fog at the top of the Xiopang mountains. We will also never forget the freindly and accomodating staff.

After being unexpectedly booted from the Royal View Hotel, we ended up staying one night here. We looked at rooms at several properties in the $15-35 price range and this one was one of the best. We got a room with a double and single bed on the second floor with HOT water for US$15/night. We paid the extra $5/night for the heater, which was well worth it (very cold here in the winter with the tile floors). The room wasn't fancy, but was clean, not musty (like nearly every room we viewed in other hotels) and had good beds. The staff was extremely helpful. My friend had lost his wallet on a trek. The hotel staff responded by helping him write up a statement for the police in Vietnamese (and even accompanied him to the station) and making phone calls to overseas banks, etc. We were also able to book high quality tours through the hotel that were competitively priced. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a 2* hotel.

We booked a 3 night 2 day SAPA trip through Sinh Cafe at 52 Hang Hom , Hanoi. We had the option of 2 star or 3 star. We were going to take 3 star, but they said the 2 star had been recently renovated and had improved alot. LIAR. For $30US a night this is no 2 star. yes it has bar fridge and hot water - but it also has mould, leeches, damp, and paint peeling and really unpleasant feeling. It took about 1/2 an hour of the cold - and we were changing rooms. I looked at two other rooms in the same complex that were really no better and said stuff it I want the 3 star. Definitely do not stay here. There are heaps of better options in SAPA. From the Green Bamboo, there is also no view except into the trees and houses in front.
