“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

We ate at The Village Noshery a couple of time - food was really good but we loved the atmosphere, there are games on the tables - we played connect four a few times. The staff were great too. We were there in January on some particulars cold foggy days so it was a great place to sit and relax and waste a few hours. We didn't stay unfortunately - rooms look great

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

My partner and I spent one night at the Village Noshery Mountain Lodge prior to a multi-day trek.  Whilst our stay was quite comfortable, even with a 30% Agoda.com discount the room was overpriced in relation to its amenities, and the subtly pushy staff and somewhat subversive pricing practices really lowered the overall experience.

ROOM:  The room was reasonably large, very cosy and tastefully decorated, but notably lacking amenities such as a fridge and safe which were provided in most other comparably priced Vietnamese hotels in which we stayed.  The bed was extremely comfortable, and a proper doona felt quite luxurious after six weeks of simple blankets.  The bathroom was well maintained, but disappointingly although the shower was delightfully hot, its position over the bath and lack of shower curtain resulted in either a very awkward shower or a flooded bathroom.

Standing out on the balcony allowed a pleasant view of the valley and mountains, but from inside our 3rd floor room the only view was of the neighbouring building.  If a view from your room is a priority (and I recommend making it one, because Sapa is stunning, even with low-lying clouds), then there are far better-positioned hotels available.

FACILITIES:  From reading other TripAdvisor reviews I understand that there was a common room area for hotel guests, however this was never made known to us.  The attached restaurant - cosy and quirky - served very good food (see separate review), but did not feel like a place where we could just chill out unless we were specifically ordering from the menu.

SERVICE:  Service was the weakest point of this establishment.  Arriving in Sapa at 6am, half-dazed after a restless overnight train ride from Hanoi, we were greeted pleasantly, but when we asked if our rooms were available for check-in we were instead promptly shuffled into chairs in the attached restaurant, handed menus, watched until we ordered (a paid) breakfast, and given the sales pitch about treks and tours available through the hotel.  I found this approach extremely presumptuous, especially given that upon finally being shown to our room, there were at least three rooms that were vacant.  If you stay here then I strongly recommend that you push for an immediate check-in rather than being pressured into first eating breakfast.

Be aware that all prices (hotel and restaurant) are quoted excluding service charges and taxes. This was never explicitly spelled out to us until we receive bills.   The actual price ends up being quoted price + 10% service charge + 5% tax.

LOCATION: Sapa town is very small; you can easily walk from one end to the other.  That said, the market is a mere 500m up the road from The Village Noshery, there are a couple of small supermarkets just a few doors down, and there are a multitude of great restaurants from which you can roll home after a good feed. The only negative location-wise is that The Village Noshery is located on one of the main streets, meaning you do get early-morning honking from bikes and mini buses.

Room Tip: We peeked into a few rooms and all seemed comparable.  For substantially cheaper prices, book throug...

We would like to thank the reviewer for there long and thoughtful review. We will keep our response shot and precise.

Our check in time is 11:00am as advertised, if customers wish to relax in our restaurant prior to check in we offer them a warm. cozy environment in our lobby where breakfast is offered. Prices for breakfast range from US$2 - US$6 maximum.

It is a pity this guest perceived our team of street kids and ethnic minority people to be pushy, sometimes conversing in a non mother tongue as well as the added challenge of never being to school makes it difficult to get the perfect message across, however with some smiles, compassion and laughs the message is soon understood.

We are looking forward to welcoming many new guests to our hotel during the high season and guarantee you will have a wonderful time in our community focussed hotel.

I was really impressed.

We had full support from the Owner of the place always ready to offer any kind of advice from what room to take to transport and pricing even weather advice. Thank you very much Pete.

We arrived via train we where on the King Express very nice and clean room and bunk beds unfortunately i cant say the same for the toilet on the train but having used the train in Vietnam on numerous occasions i did not really expect too much( better to get a roll of toilet paper just in case as normally there is no toilet paper) but of course this has nothing to do with The Village Noshery .

Having arrived very early in the morning around 5 o'clock we where very keen on exploring. As our room was not ready at this time which is completely understandable they offered to keep our bags for us so that we could go out in the very nice and clean fresh air and explore we discovered a local market close by which had almost pretty much anything you could think of from fresh veggies, fruits and Nuts to First Accent boots, shoes, jackets and back packs(however i do not entirely think it was very real products)

After our exploring we came back at around 9 o clock to check in, we where swiftly checked in to our room which was nice and clean once again it had two beds one single and one double which was fantastic as we where 3 people. As its a lodge there is not a TV but then again who comes to Sapa to watch TV.

The decor was very interesting completely decorated in a very artistic Sapa way. They had on offer Lavazza Coffee and freshly baked cakes and muffins which is very welcome if its raining outside. Also they have games on offer also which is a nice touch(games like connect 4 and Uno)

Not knowing much about Sapa the staff where very happy to point us in the right directions and to recommend a few places of interest.

Our breakfast was included so that was nice(excluding the Lavazza Coffee) also they have Happy Hour at the end of the day but not sure if that would be year round better to check with staff first. recommend Lai Cao Beer(Local Beer) it was nice and fruity even though it was advertised as Lager.

We had a magical trip to Sapa and i would recommend anybody and everybody to go there and also to stay at The Village Noshery for next level service.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the highest floor close to the back for the best view and the most peaceful nig...

My husband and I stayed here 3 nights while exploring Sapa.
First of all, the restaurant/cafe is amazing. Happy hour, yummy food and friendly service!
The best!
The rooms are clean, comfy and simple. Our's was in the back and it was quiet and relaxing.
Breakfast is included and is delicious!
The staff is sweet and knowledgeable.
We booked a cooking class and a 1 day trek thru Tet Lifestyle (company that manages the lodge). My husband and I are not the group tour kind(nothing wrong with it though!) We had a blast! Ask for Ly Su May to be your tour guide/chef. Her english is perfect and she just knows it all, in a good way! We miss her already.

Thank you Tet Lifestyle for a fun 3 days in Sapa

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night to go trekking in Sa Pa.

Excellent decor downstairs in the restaurant, and excellent food and menu. Good for veggies too. A lovely place to chill out after a day walking.

We knew the room would be basic, but we did think that it differed a lot (too much) from the restaurant. The bathroom was a real let down. Very old and I think should be replaced to a slightly higher standard.

Overall though, we would definitely recommend this place as a hotel and restaurant. The staff were very friendly and spoke good English.

If you want to stay right in the center of Sapa this is a great option! Rooms are spacious and bright and the service friendly and helpful. Even if you are not staying here it is worth a visit for the restaurant that offers both Vietnamese and Western dishes... Remember to try the hot chocolate :)

I'm not going to write much regarding the phsical attributes of the hotel itself or its exterior or interior, except for saying that the one phrase that appropriately desribes The Village Noshery is home comfort. What I did want to share with other travellers is my first hand experience of the level of integrity of their staff from my recent stay in Sapa. The hospitality displayed from the arrangement of our train & tour tickets, to the moment we arrived in Sapa was 5 stars. When we had finally left Sapa with our great memories intact, I was contacted by their employees to inform that I had left my wallet (which was full of money) in the hotel room. They then proceeded to courier my wallet to the address that I was staying in Ho Chi Minh City. After living and working in Vietnam for a few years now, I really have seen it all. For me this went beyond my expectations and I feel the biggest appreciation I can show is to highlight and share this experience with other travellers. Thank you to the wonderful team at Village Noshery for your classy acts of service and for leaving a lasting impression in the minds of my friends and I which we will cherish for a long long time!!

Regards,

Paul
