“simple hotel, great hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

The room I had was simple but large and clean. All rooms come off the main stairwell which means that if you're a light sleeper like me then you'll be woken up at 6:30am when they start work. Breakfast had good options (pho, different eggs, pancakes), I did the Bac Ha market tour on the Sunday which was good and cheaper than other places. The staff were lovely and the guy that runs the hotel was incredibly hospitable. I ate dinner with his family the first night and then with him and other guests the next. The bed was quite hard but i think that's standard, bathroom clean, the location is good.

Room Tip: i imagine they'll all be noisy! not all of them will have a view but if it's foggy then tha...

I came to this hotel on a fixed low budget tour. Everything was fabulous. All my needs taken care of from the moment I arrived everything has been smooth sailing and the meals all of which I have had here(paid for in the tour price) have been plentiful and flavourful.Place is clean...though a little rundown. Hot water was a little scarce and wifi was a little intermittent but overall experience was extremely satisfactory based on price.

We stayed here for two nights and it has to be said the guys that run this place are some of the friendliest going. They were really helpful and accommodating. We arrived on the night train way before our check in time but they gave us a room to rest in while ours was being prepared. Thye gave us a free breakfast everyday and they also organised a local guide and a minivan back to Lao Cai for us.

The view from our room was amazing. Simply incredible and the room itself was basic but very homely and lovely.

The hotel itself is a little worn out and shabby but spotlessly clean. Sapa itself can be damp and cold and without heating the hotel can get chilly. However there were spare blankets and endless cups of tea on the go. For the price it's tough to complain!

The management are extremely attentive and the place is really well positioned for the sights of Sapa. If you are looking for a friendly affordable place to stay I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Try and get one of the rooms at the front, great views from the balcony!

We stayed I this hotel for 5 nights. We were given free breakfast when we arrived after getting the night train from Hanoi. The room was comfortable, good value for the price. The location was very central and the view was fantastic. Mr Tom the owner was very helpful. He gave us a free lunch as we had stayed longer than most guests, great food! His cousin Eddie helped us plan our days and did not push the paid tours. One of the tour guides, John, was having a party for his wedding which had taken place in his village 2 weeks before. We came back after dinner and the party was in full swing. We were invited to join in and they insisted we ate food and drank rice wine with them. It was a lot of fun. We did a day tour with John after that and went to 2 villages. It was very interesting and informative as John speaks very good English. This is a family run hotel and you are made to feel very welcome.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the building to get a view.

We did not stay at the Casablanca Hotel, but because the front desk staff at the Chau Long Hotel spoke no English and could not help us with tours, we stopped by to speak with Mr. Tom because of some recommendations we had read. We were extremely happy with all the help that he provided during our 3 day stay in Sapa. He arranged a tour, motorbikes, and included an incredible dinner for us at his hotel! He charged us half of what Chau Long was going to charge to go to the same places. He even personally escorted us to the petrol station to fuel our motorbikes that he arranged to have delivered to his hotel for us. He was not pushy, and we couldn't believe that he was so extremely accommodating when we weren't even his hotel guests! The English speaking guide he arranged was excellent and we could not have been happier!

We booked Casablanca based on positive TA reviews.
Based on the price found on an online booking website, our expectations were high for a mid-range clean hotel.

The Casablanca Hotel is well located just off the main street in Sapa.
Staff warmly welcomed us with a breakfast while our rooms were being prepared.

When we booked into our room, we were disappointed by several items.
- Musty moldy smells
- Bathroom not cleaned properly - hairs left from previous guests
- Dirty floor in the room
- General room maintenance like peeling paint, cracks
- From our room, we could see on the top floor, lots of junk and stuff lying about (see picture)

We have stayed in hostels and backpacker lodges in this condition many times while backpacking, but they have all been much cheaper compared to Casablanca.

We checked out before statying one night and switched to the Thai Binh hotel, which for almost the same price, was fantastic.

Conclusion: At the price point, this hotel doesn't represent good value compared to what you can find in Sapa. I think it should be priced much lower (very budget), or the overall maintenance should be improved.

I stayed in Casablanca Hotel for 2 nights/3 days, with my 2 cousins and my Aunt, at the beginning of October. We arrived very early in the morning off the night train and were offered a cup of tea and a free breakfast (which WASN'T included in the bill so very kind of them!) We had reserved two rooms. One room was ready and one was not (absolutely fair enough since we were early, the hotel was busy, previous guests had still to check out and rooms had to be cleaned). The rooms we were given were lovely, one with a balcony and one without. The views were absolutely breathtaking from both rooms. The beds were clean, extremely comfortable, there was a slight smell of damp (but you're in the mountains, it rains a lot and to be honest, we were exhausted after all the walking it didn't make a difference, we slept so well anyway!) The bathroom was clean and the hotel was quiet at night. The hotel was in an excellent location, close to all the restaurants, main square, bars etc. The breakfast was simple but nice. Fresh bread rolls, tea, eggs. The best thing about this hotel, however, were the staff. They were so friendly, you felt like you were the only ones staying there, as you were made to feel like family. They looked after you, welcomed you, you could use their computers, they would help you organise your days (if you asked them!!), they looked after my Aunt one day who opted out of a walk, and on our final day we went on a walk to some waterfalls and one member of staff (Eddie) said he would come as our personal tour guide. At no time did we feel that we were forced to book tours or pay more for anything but the staff were extremely helpful if we asked them for advice. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to stay in Sapa, who wishes to experience the real Vietnam! We had a fantastic stay and it was a lovely way to end a brilliant holiday. Thank you to all at the Casablanca Hotel.

Room Tip: If you're not good with steps then perhaps ask for a room on the second floor because there are...
