My husband and I ended my 2 week 50th birthday trip to Indonesia with a 3 night stay at Tugu Bali. After a 4 night stay at their sister hotel on Lombok, our expectations were extremely high. We were not disappointed. The same things that made our stay on Lombok special could also be said of this hotel. It was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had in all of our travels. The location (on a great surfers' beach), hotel (filled with antique museum pieces), and room (overlooking the ocean)were all over the top. But most of all, it was the service and hospitality of all the staff. We were treated very special and it always felt genuine. We chose one of their unique 3 day packages that was called "101 Tastes of the Islands", which included some special dinners, a trip to the food market and a cooking class. Since I was celebrating my actual birthday here, one of the dinners that intrigued me was the Tugudom dining experience, which I chose to do on my birthday. If you want to treat yourself very special and feel like a queen or king for one night, I highly reccommend this. The pomp and circumstance of the food presentation by a multitude of the staff is truly over the top. While dressed in traditional costume (soldiers, dancers, villagers), they give a presentaion with dance and music, then parade you into a beautiful dining room for a private, candlelit dinner. The Tugudom experience tells the story of the Royal expeditions of King Hayam Wuruk of 500 years ago. We were also treated to a private Legong dance by a beautiful balinese dancer. To end it all, they presented me with a wonderful chocolate lava birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday in Balinese! How can I top that for my 51st? (To be honest, the food was good, not spectacular, but who cares? The ceremony made up up for any culinary deficiencies)! The cooking class was another unique experience. You choose the dishes you wish to make, go to the market to provision, have the cooking class, then sit down for a fabulous meal. It was one of the best we had in Bali, even if we did have to work hard for it! (If you do this, the market visit is a must) We also had a romantic candlelit dinner on the beach. One of the amenities that is unique with the Tugu Hotels is being able to dine privately whenever and wherever you wish. It gave my husband and me much needed quality alone time together. We also had a wonderful spa treatment. The rest of the time we spent on the beach watching the many surfers and swimming. It is a great beach for bodysurfing, but you should be a good swimmer. The swells and undertow can be ferocious. Another special touch were the personalized notes we received at check-in, at dinner and every night after turn down service. An added bonus was a delivery of a beautiful flower arrangement on my birthday. From the airport pick-up to our airport drop-off, we were pampered and in luxury. What a great way to spend my birthday!

My husband and I had the most amazing and incredible stay at Tugu Bali. The Hotel totally exceeded our expectations and thanks to the kindness and hospitality of the whole team, we had the most incredible time... I work in the hotel / restaurant field and I can tell you that this hotel is really a gem, it is a true paradise on earth, especially if you are looking for Balinese authenticity... You travel in the ancient time of Bali, starting with the huge statue in the lobby and all the antiques everywhere in the hotel, the rooms are beautiful, especially the ones facing the sea with the copper bathroom... The ambiance of the hotel is perfect for the most romantic time. We really fell in love with Tugu, thank you again to all the team at Tugu Bali!!! We even extended the magic by staying at the newly open Tugu Lombok - also amazing...

We had the most amazing stay at Hotel Tugu Bali. We were on our honeymoon and flew for a very, very long time from NYC to Bali, and were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by our hospitable driver from the resort at the airport. He took us directly to the resort, where we were immediately greeted by name by the staff. We were absolutely blown away by the amazing hospitality at the resort. Everyone called us by name and made us feel welcome. The food was top-notch as well, and the room was spacious and authentic. We loved having our own private plunge pool out back, and the staff was incredibly helpful in arranging all of our transportation and sight seeing during our stay. Hotel Tugu Bali's location on Canggu Beach is also uncomparable - if you love surfing or secluded beaches with some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world, this is the place to stay.

  • Liked — Intimate resort, great location, amazing staff, beautiful sunsets, attractive resort grounds
  • Disliked — Nothing!

I stayed at the Tugu with my 23 y.o. daughter and we both loved the Tugu for many of the same, but also different reasons.

We loved walking around the hotel and discovering beautiful antiques and special rooms around each corner. We loved picking where we were going to eat dinner in one of their incredible rooms surrounded by antique pieces of Bali's history. We loved the spa and especially the outdoor spa and the wonderful therapist they have there. We loved our room that felt like a lovely suite in a friends house, so unique and special. And we loved every minute we got to stay and enjoy the wonderful staff of the Tugu.

My daughter is a surfer and I think Canngu was her favorite place to surf and it is right in front of the hotel. There were a few other surfers from around the world staying there and they all had a good time together. I would have coffee brought out to the lounges on the beach and have never enjoyed my morning coffee more! I walked the beach and it is peaceful, safe and interesting. There are a few restaurants north of the hotel but we ate all our meals at the hotel and I am not sorry...the meals were fabulous.

This is an amazing, special place that if you have the chance to stay there, you should. I cannot wait to go to their new hotel on Lombok.

We stayed here for 4 nights on our honeymoon and I was a little dissapointed.. the hotel is fenced off for security and is set back from the beach. The ocean here has loads of rocks, and is more ideal for experienced surfers that sunbathing. the beach had about 6 deck chairs for the hotel guests, but that too was set back and a little ramshackled looking, so we spent lots of time at the pool. We only discovered then that the hotel also labels itself as a museum hotel, so is filled with antiques and the same dark musty vibe that accompanies museums. That said: the service was exceptional (one can eat anywhere and anytime - they will set up a table anywhere on their premises) and our room was nice, but i found it all too rustic for the price we were paying.
Our highlight was discovering the Italian owned Sticky Fingers on Echo Beach close by, where we spent ages on their roof terrace, sipping marvellously massive cocktails (at half the price of the hotel's and twice the size), overlooking the ocean and surfers. Seminyak's shopping and restaurants is about a 20 min taxi ride from Canggu..
