“Bliss!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

With a hectic job and lifestyle I was in dire need for complete relaxation on a solo holiday. I found Bliss through Google so I emailed and within a few hours I had a reply. I am quite an inquisitive one and Zoe (The Owner) was more than happy to respond to all my queries in a very timely manner. I knew then this was the place for me.

On arrival to the airport it was great to have my personal driver Baguse there to pick me up. I arrived at the villa a bit exhausted and was greeted by Louise the hostess, who is amazing by the way! I was given a juice and some food and then we discussed what I wanted for the week and then had a massage. The only thing I could say here is that maybe the guests get a chance to freshen up themselves first before sitting down to talk about what the plan for the week is or have a massage.

No joke though by the next day I was already feeling very relaxed. The staff are great and would do anything for you. Food choice was fab, great little chefs! Baguse was always on hand to take you where you wanted to go which was great although really I hardly went out as I wanted to relax as much as possible and Wyanne, the beauty therapist was great! I don't think I've ever had massages every day for a week in my life!! You can also choose facials, mani/pedis, hair treatments, reflexology etc so you don't just have to have a massage but you get 90 min of treatment every day!! Zoe also brings all guests to Potato Head (fabulous bar) on Sunday for a few cocktails which was a treat. Your room is always made up both morning and evening with fresh sarongs and towels. The bedrooms are fab, spacious and beautiful with a gorgeous indoor/outdoor Zen bathroom.

I really did get what I wanted out of this week. A few things I'd improve would be to see prior to arrival if your guests wanted yoga onsite, there would be enough space for a small group as I felt although the yoga centre we went to was beautiful it was a class full of very experienced yoga people who were staying at that yoga resort. It would of been nice to have just other guests at bliss being able to do a few classes that week together at a different more relaxed level. Also I do feel that Sammy the healer should be included in the package for one session and any other sessions would be extra then. Wether this happens or not though you should have at least one session with hom, your hostess will organise this for you. be prepared for listening to him about what is worong with your health and how you can fix it, I've taken on board what he has said and already feeling the difference.

Thanks for all the staff especially Louise for making this a wonderful trip for me. I'd highly recommend this for any woman wanted time out on her own in a beautiful relaxed setting!!

Hi Clara,
thankyou so much for your awesome review, we loved having you with your bubbly personality at Bliss :)

I just wanted to respond to a couple of things you suggested as I'm so thankful for the time you've taken to provide feedback about your stay. We can only get better this way and really really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

In regards to the yoga on site, given we're a sanctuary and not a specific yoga retreat not all of our guests want to do yoga. As such we have partnered with Desa Seni which we only get rave reviews about as a beautiful location in Bali to visit, a bit of an outing outside of the sanctuary (often on the back of the staffs scooters which a lot of guests love, otherwise our drivers will be there for you) and a fantastic array of classes of all different styles of yoga at all different times with the best teachers from around the world. We could never seek to top this in terms of a yoga experience and at the same time we leave the space free at the sanctuary for rest and relaxation and for each guest to find their own bliss their own way.

If guests do want private yoga lessons this can be arranged through Desa Seni at an extra cost as I do acknowledge some beginners may feel intimidated at being in a class full of yoga enthusiasts. But like I say to all our guests, everybody is equal and just as important as the next person in that class no matter what their level, so you are just as valid as the next person no matter what your past experience with yoga is, if any. It's your time to focus on your body mind and souls and do something lovely for yourself in beautiful surroundings.

We have also found that some women like to do their own yoga practice in their room at the sanctuary so we have yoga mats and also a daily yoga DVD for anybody wanting to explore yoga that way ... though it certainly doesn't compensate for having one of the amazing Desa Seni instructors.

In regards to Sami, I'm so glad you loved him. We're very clear that he is not included in the package as again not everybody who comes to Bliss wants the Sami healing experience so it's not for us to dictate. But we do provide 90 minutes of all different types of treatments everyday ... which for most women is up to 10 hours of massage before they leave! These include facials, body scrubs, mani/pedi's, deluxe hair treatment with hair mask... etc. so with or without the Sami healing experience we try to ensure you have exactly what you need to find your own bliss.

As I'm writing this I'm thinking I need to call Sami! You've reminded me how amazing he is :) lol.

We can't wait to have you again Clara ... maybe in Spain when we open up there?!?!?

Much Love, Zoe xxx

I booked my week at Bliss with some reservations because I've never had a holiday with "everything laid on" for me and in the past had preferred a bit more independence, uncertainty and adventure. However, after many years with no proper holiday and a very stressful time this year in particular, and never having been to Bali before, I decided that the idea of being looked after in a beautiful spot, getting lots of massages and rest - and all in some warm weather - sounded pretty appealing, so hoped that it would deliver what it promised.

Well, it did that in spades, and I could find little if any fault with the wonderful experience I had there. It was exactly what I needed, the first few days doing almost nothing except rest, sleep, read, watch the odd film, get wonderful massages and be fed delicious food in delightful surroundings. There was the freedom to choose solitude or to seek company or outside activities when I felt like it.

I really enjoyed walking down to (about 5 minutes) and along the beach in both directions. One morning there was a small ceremony taking place on Canggu beach.

I can only echo the many descriptions given by other reviewers. I had peace and rest and also some fun and plenty of enjoyment and felt thoroughly rejuvenated and ready for the next half of my holiday up in Ubud afterwards. It was the perfect start to my Balinese holiday and fulfilled my expectations completely.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned that the rooms were supplied with TV and DVD player, and there is a large collection of DVDs to choose from.

For myself, I was glad that I had another week to see some more of Bali, as for a first trip there I would not have felt satisfied to have just stayed in the one place and seen relatively little of Balinese life and the rest of the island. However I should add that it was my choice not to undertake lots of outside activities from Bliss as I wanted and needed the "cocooning" and deliberately chose to do very little apart from some yoga and walking on the beach - and this suited me down to the ground.

Room Tip: I liked my room (the one with 2 beds), but all three rooms looked equally comfortable.

This was my third stay at the Bliss Sanctuary and wont be my last. Excellent accommodation, yummy food and blissful massages and treatments from Wayan the massage lady. There is a driver on call. Only three villas set in beautiful gardens with pool and is very secure. Only a few minutes from the Canggu surf beach. The hostess with the mostess makes sure all is running to what the clients require. I highly recommend this womens sanctuary for the stressed out lady who requires some well deserved R & R. Its called Bliss for a reason.

Found Bliss on Google, was looking for somewhere to, just relax, put feet up & be pampered.
This is the place for that. Staff were wonderful, could not fault them at all. Food was AMAZING!
Zoe, hostess & owner was friendly, without being intrusive. There were only two of us, in villa for most of stay, so were looked after very well. Rooms are just as they appear on website, HUGE, and too the Villa.
Sami the healer & Lesley the tarot card reader, in my opinion, are not worth spending extra money on. Also It would be great for the villa to have, Yoga as an optional extra, for those who, may just want to try it once, then decide, if they want to do more.
was very noisy at times with young motorbikers, hooning around.

overall, enjoyed my time there.

Hi Nicholette,
we miss you already at bliss :)
Loved connecting with you as did all the staff and the other guests.

I just wanted to apologise for any miscommunications about the yoga. It is definitely an option included in the package that you can try any time you like at the beautiful nearby Desa Seni. I'll ensure I'm more clear about that next time and again apologies. For anybody wanting private lessons at the villa we can organise that as an extra expense.

I'm glad you loved your stay overall and thankyou for your kind words. I'm most glad you felt very looked after when there were two of you there and then later on when the other guest arrived. That's what's great about our bookings, we don't have set dates where everybody arrives and leaves at the same time, so we can personalise your stay with the dates and length of time that suits you.

I hope the rest of your stay in Bali was fabulous and thankyou so much for sharing your views... so very much appreciated.

Bliss Wishes, Zoe :)

I was looking for a bit of adventure but then I also wanted some relaxation and, of course, a few treatments wouldn't go astray either. I found this and more at Bliss Sanctuary for Women. Zoe is a fabulous hostess and even though I was the oldest at the Villa by about 20 years, it didn't matter as we all got on fabulously. I managed to accomplish my objective which included cycling, relaxation, yoga & treatments but didn't count on the superb villa, fantastic food and the wonderful staff - I felt like I had known them forever. It truly was a great experience.

My friend, who lives in Amsterdam, and I were looking for somewhere to meet for a holiday that was quiet, stress free, relaxing and indulgent. I came upon Bliss Sanctuary in an article in the SMH and realised straight away that this is exactly the place we had been looking for. My friend and I stayed at Bliss for a week and I have to say that one week was not long enough! The villa, the staff, the food, the massages were beyond our expectations. Zoe, our hostess, and all the wonderful staff could not do enough for us. We both left feeling happy, light and stress free. Staying at Bliss also gave us the opportunity to spend much needed quality time together without many other tourists and children milling about (very important for a teacher on school holidays!) Thank you to Zoe and your beautiful staff for making our holiday so wonderful.

I was looking for a holiday break in beautiful surroundings, somewhere stress free and relaxed where I could stay as a single- and in every way, Bliss Sanctuary made this dream come true. From the moment I entered the grounds, greeted by the wonderful Zoe, I knew that this was a true sanctuary. The staff are wonderful and caring, the food is sensational and the relaxed atmosphere a joy. Whether it's reading a book, sleeping by the pool or chilling out after an amazing massage, Bliss allows you to enjoy whatever you want without the pressure of 'having' to do anything. Perfection. Thank you to Zoe and the wonderful staff for making my 'time out' so blissful. Highly recommend this Sanctuary to any woman looking for some time to herself in a safe, beautiful and caring space.
