“A GOOD PLACE TO STAY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2014

This resort is located on the quieter beach of Samudra. It has good amenties and all staff appear very friendly and willing to please. Rooms vary, we had one top floor of atrium which was bright with balcony, limited view but a bit of a treck from reception. Other rooms can be dark though. The main buffet dining area can be dull. Breakfast buffet is adequate and plentiful. Reception staff are obliging and our room cleaned to a good standard.

The beach can be reached through a gate and the area outside has several very nice restaurants aswell. Easy to walk onto the next beach along via steps and coastal path and then even further you can walk to Lighthouse bay aswell which is a lot busier with plentiful selection of restaurants. Would not recommend the walk there though at night as no lighting, but notice others use torches.

Good standard hotel and can recommend.

Great welcome and quick check in, very large open lobby dotted with Kerala antiques. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Room was E room overlooking the garden which was kept very well manicured. Good shower although our down tap didn’t work due to swap tap being broken, no problems with housekeeping.
Table on the balcony was broken. Safe not fixed to the wall you could pick up and move it.
Breakfast could be a little hap hazard, one morning we waited 20 minutes for scrambled egg and most mornings the marmalade was not replaced when empty, tea machine was joke. The crockery was a mismatch of plastic and china and lots chips in cups and some plates. We did not use the restaurants as there were plenty on the beach.
A shop on site was very well stocked, we didn’t try the massage centre it was very expensive. Trying to log on to the WiFi was just a nightmare.
One morning we were watching the gardeners trim the coconut trees just outside the Courtyard Restaurant and the manager came out and asked to move on in a very rude manner, why we were not doing any harm and there was no one in the restaurant .
They have a very nice beach which is kept very clean although the sea can be a little rough, so remove jewellery before going for a swim, also the local fisherman bring in their catch on the beach most mornings which adds a nice local touch. We also enjoyed watching Fish Eagles while on the beech
One the whole a very enjoyable 7 days here, much quieter then Lighthouse beech and has everything you need.

it was the best place among the five places i recently travelled on my honeymoon.....i wish i would have more days here to spend....but didn't know before that it will be such a great place....recently had a trip to kerela with my wife....i travelled munnar, alley, Trivandrum- kovalam and kochi. this (uday samudra) hotel is fabulous from inside out.....either you count on outside nearby facilities or inside swimming, spa, massage, shopping facilities......backyard is covered with golden sand beach...to watch beautiful sunset....environment is so friendly and peaceful that i made so many friends over there who came as couple in honeymoon packages....faculty gives great service.....i think its in the blood of kerela people.....everywhere i go inside kerela.....i feel more secure and safe....great place to spend time.....i will definitely recumbent this hotel to visit....few down point though....full faculty wear same kind of dress code....so its hard to find which faculty is for which department....one time i ask from one attendant about charge of a can of juice in buffer system of dinner....and he told me its all included and its free....so, when i open the can...another lady came in and told me that its 50 rupees for one....that really pissed me off.....management should need more training according to hotel reputation...

Room Tip: rooms at the ground floor, in front of swimming pool is fun..cos you can have your private swimming...

We have just returned from a very enjoyable stay at the Uday Samudra. This was our second stay and it has been extended extensively over the last few years. The hotel was very busy and is visited by holidaymakers from Europe and India including many business function delegates. Service is very good from all staff and they work hard to make your stay enjoyable. The pools and location make for a very relaxing visit. Well located for the airport and visiting surrounding attractions.
There is a lot of building work being carried out which does impact on some of the best rooms and pool areas. Wi Fi is mostly unaccessable in rooms, only in the lobby. Very little evening entertainment and a missed opportunity to put on cultural, cooking demonstrations. We only had breakfast as there are many great small restaurants surrounding the hotel. Most people who ate on site seemed to be on a inclusive package.
We surprised ourselves by visiting the dental clinic which was conveniently located next to the pool and gave a good value and highly professional service. Also used ocean spa which was great.
Would recommend

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view but ask about building work!

We were on our honeymoon in July 2011. Kovalam was our last destination and Uday Samudra was the last hotel we had stayed in. However the best one. Once you reach hotel, you will get welcome treatment in Indian Culture style. Staff is very polite and humble.
Rooms are just amazing, feels like you are VIP and getting the treatment you deserve. Food is also very good. I was so impressed with the stay, that I though of visiting this hotel again.
One example of customer delight..my wife forgot her stole at dining area. It was just a piece of cloth they could throw it away. But it was of importance to us as same was purchased from Karala. We just informed them by phone call and they had courier it to us. Anybody will impress..isn't it?
Beach is just next to the hotel and what a lovely beach. So visit Uday Samudra and enjoy your stay. I will visit again for sure.

Room Tip: Rooms on top floors.

this wwas our second visit to Uday we were not disappointed, imprvements have been carried out since our last visit and they continue to do so,They listen to your views and act on them, it is a beautiful hotel facing the sea. thera are loads of little shops and restaurants arround it and it is only a short distance from lighthouse beach and Kovalem beasch both are good for swaimming, the sea can be a little rough on the beach outside the hotel. Food is very good restaurantsare spotlessly clean ,neither of us had "gippy tummies". Staff are well trained and courteous and obliging you have 2spas there both of which are very good. You always seem to meet nice people there we went with Merury Direct who have reps calling there most days. ERooms are fresh ,clean and airy with all facilites , i have noproblems in recommending this delightful hotel we will go back for yet another visit.

Room Tip: all rooms are good go for exotica plus facing pool

The first thing I notice about the resort is the Ambiance. It is very Simple but attract you very much. The Boat at the starting of the reception, the Swim Pool design, the Traditional Dancer Pic on the wall. It really shows you the true picture of Kerala.

Some of its room are Having Sea View, so I prefer to have those personally. It was refered by me by one of my Friend Yash who is Travel Consultant @ The Tour Planners and I totally appreciate its choice.

The food was bit on costly side but was yummy. Specially North Indian one. I like the taste of it.

Room Tip: Have Sea View Room. In evening go to beach, which is just few steps
