I am not the most travelled of people, so i cannot say that this is the best hotel in the world, but for me it was without equal, at least of all those I have stayed in.
Situated in the Tianjin Economic Development Area (TEDA), and part of a larger convention complex, this is part of the large Marriott Chain.
I spent some four night here, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute, from the moment we stepped out of the taxi from the airport, until we were ushered back into another of the city's exciting taxis.
we were welcomed at the desk, tired after some 18 hours travelling, with a glass of green tea, and the book in process could not have been simpler.
The room was very well appointed, the largest bed I have ever seen was the main point, but the room also had a very large desk, an ethernet cable, a large TV and a large bathroom with splendid shower, which was very welcome after our long journey.
The hotel features a good restaurant, in which we breakfasted each day, and ate in most evenings. The food was a good mix of western and oriental food, with breakfast having something for people from all corners of the world. We would the food to be of a high standard, and for dinner always chose the buffet option, which was mainly oriental in nature, but excellent.
We did meet the hotel manager, who made sure all was fine with us, assuring us of the attention to detail that had been put into the hotel recently. Mr Emery spoke to all guests as far as I could see, and remembered my party when encountered on another day, asking if our trip had been a success.
The only downside was that service at the bar was a little slow at times, but enabled us to enjoy the decor and people watch.
It is worth noting that although the hotel is in Tianjin, it is a half hour taxi ride to downtown Tianjin, and getting a taxi to come back the other way can be problematic. TEDA is mainly a business and industrial area, and that many of the tourist attractions nearby can be reached via a taxi ride, which is reasonable and the hotel staff can organise. TEDA itself is not pretty to be honest, and much of TEDA can be obscured by poor air quality at times.
All in all, a wonderful hotel in which to relax after the journey or a day of business.
