Expectations are very high when boking a St. Regis Hotel, right?
Location is very nice, espeacially when you get a room with riverview. The Hotel is new, so rooms are spacious and modern equipped but just not special at all - could be any other chain.
But two things were below standards: breakfast and staff's english capabilities.
The breakfast is just as any other decent 5*-hotel, if not not below, and it is difficult to make yourself understand when talking to staff. Checkin e.g. took longer than necessary because of that and it was impoosible to get a sunny-side-up-egg for breakfast, as the eggman did not understand.
but staff was throughout very polite and helpfull and the happy hour between 5:30 and 7 p.m. was even f.o.c., much to my surprise.

Room Tip: Of course riverview is much nicer than looking down to the street.

Had a nightmarish stay here recently and would never consider doing so again. This was particularly frustrating in light of the cost and purported 5-star quality of the hotel. A few complaints:

1. On a 33 C day, the airconditioning didn't function properly. I was informed by the hotel that this was because my room was on the sunny side of the building. Great.

2. On a Sunday morning when hoping to get some sleep, I was woken up by the alarm clock which had been set (not by myself) for 6:15 am.

3. The hotel charges for wifi access by the minute.

4. After walking around town for the day and prior to the trip home, I asked if it would be possible to take a quick shower at the hotel's pool or gym. I was told that this would not be possible. Granted, I had already checked out but one would think that this was a request that the hotel should be able to accomodate.

In addition to these, which had a considerable impact on the quality of my stay, there were several other minor issues (noted by others as well) such as low water pressure, poor english, etc. that could be overlooked but one wouldn't expect from a five-star hotel.

In sum, staying here really put a damper on what otherwise would been an enjoyable weekend. One would expect exactly the opposite from such an expensive hotel. I would strongly recommend staying elsewhere to anyone heading to Tianjin.

Stayed here as part of a 4 city, 3 night business trip. First stop was the St. Regis in Tianjin. I got in very late, around midnight after flying to Beijing and taking a car to the St. Regis.

1. There was no one at the reception when I arrived. There were no staff at the door either. Maybe midnight is too late, quite possibly I was the last guest checking in for the day, and I only stayed there for about 7 hrs before leaving.

2. The room did not have air conditioning already on. THe hotel knew I was arriving, yet the room was stale and unprepared.

3. The water pressure was extremely low. Despite turning the luxury brand faucet to full blast, the water came out very weak and additionally it took about 4 mins before the hot water came on.

4. Breakfast spread was mediocre. Oddly shaped dining area, bread and danish at the entrance while the seats are all largely in the main dining area. Not a big deal, but just being specific that the arrangement is a bit odd.

I stayed in 3 Starwood properties, and this was an ok property, I probably would not stay here again. The rate was not bad, but then again this is Tianjin.

Very nice, good locadted hotel in Tianjin. Nearby several tourists attraction and shopping centers. Also the italian village just right there. Stuff büvery friendly and helpful. They le kids and were helping to amuse our 1,5 yo very good.
Room are spacious and clean.

As we were looking for a hotel as good as it gets for a weekend stay, I rate our stay this in mind. As a whole, we were slightly dissappointed. one can discuss about the style of the interior in rooms and elsewhere, but there was simply too much plastic, glass, metal, all different shapes to my taste. More alarmingly, in soppusededly top-notch facility, there were too many 'out of order' signs to me met. All jacuzzis and 30% of showers were out, as an example. Shower area also smelled bad, no question of that.

On the bright(er) side, service was impeccable throughout the stay. View towards the river is really nice and location of the hotel is also good. Restaurants were ok, allthough, once again, the style of the "place to be in Tianjin" bar was way too contemporaty to us (choose Dublin Bar, instead..). Breakfast was ok, nice set-up and good and fast service. I have better cheese selection at home on weekdays, though. You do not need to be Sofitel with cheese stuff, but this was way below par among 5 star facilities. At this level one also finds ofter an espresso machine in the room. Not available here.

I would recommend, perhaps, the hotel for business purposes. We will certainly check something else next time, Astor, Indigo etc.

The service at this hotel is wonderful, from efficient check-in, to handling inquiries,to check-out. I never had to wait long and everyone I spoke with was bilingual. The room is spacious and had reliable internet, flat-screen tv, some office supplies, typical bathroom amenities, mini-bar, and an in-room coffee press. A/C was locked so that you could not cool down below a certain temperature. The bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is large with good water pressure; the lighting is low. The room did not have a safe, which would have been convenient, nor did I find a clothes iron.
The gym is open 24/7 and has modern equipment but is hard to find - signage once you get off the lift is poor. (Go into the spa, turn left, wander through a maze of massage rooms until you see a sign for the exercise room and go downstairs.)
Breakfast and lunch buffets were good - a moderate variety of Eastern and Western food of good quality. We were also there for a business meeting and the meeting room and service were excellent, from A/V support, catering, room temperature, set-up and size. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
We did notice that it is hard to hail a cab from the hotel, possibly because of the location on a one-way street. Taxi drivers need to be flagged down and drive out of their way to get to the hotel. It's easier to walk to street level if you are in a hurry.

I stayed here 3 nights in a Business room with great river view.

The first impression was quite good, friendly service, big TV, clean bathroom. Regrettably it was not possible to open the window in 11th floor, but ok that's not unusal. The light management of the room was a little difficult, often I pressed the buttons by random some time until I found conveniant light.

The restaurant was nice, but they served me the wrong dish. The italian food was ok. At the bar we had some drinks, but the Gin Tonic seemed to be with only a little alcohol.

The only real disadvantage of the hotel is a blinking light at the ceiling of the room. It blinks all the time, and if you don't sleep well because of Jetlag, this thing makes you CRAZY!

Room Tip: ask them to switch of the blinking light.
