If you find yourself driving the Richardson highway near Paxon Alaska, stop in at Meiers Lake Roadhouse. Neat little area with motel style lodge, museum, gift shop and restaurant. My husband and I drove the full loop from Anchorage to Fairbanks, taking the less traveled roads. We were looking forward to stopping in Paxon (refered to by local old timers) only to find the place a boarded up ghost town. 16 miles south of Paxon, we came on to the Meiers Lake Roadhouse. at ten pm the lodge owner still had the grill going and asked us what we wanted (read breakfast, lunch dinner, water, ice tea, beer). Honestly I think it is the best burger Alaska has to offer! Thick, juicy homemade patty; toasted bun; thick, smokey bacon. the burgers also came with the typcial accoutrements such as pickels, tomato, onion and fries. Simple but, hot, delicious! the locals are a flavor all on their own too! Can highly recommend it!!
