“Heavenly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2011

Stayed 1 night after visiting Denali . The place is located at a hill and it has a pleasant feel about it. The cabins were very nicely decorated and the garden was nice.
It was very clean and had a kitchen and all toiletries needed in the bathroom.
Karen was really nice and made sure we had everything we need.
Breakfast was at the main house and we had pancakes, bacon, yogurt , apple juice, coffee or tea.
It just feels like home and would recommend it to anyone looking for a really, really , really nice B&B before proceeding with your journey. My 7 yr old said...it feels like heaven !
Thanks Karen!

This nicely situated property seemed perfect for a reunion of 4 friends. Turns out that talking in your room at a normal level is prohibited after 10 p.m. We were asked to leave, and Karen told us that we were well aware of her quiet hours rule. Since that is not posted on her website, nor included in the welcome letter or posted in our room, I'm not sure how we would have known. I must say, that even if we had heard the rule, we would never have assumed that it meant "go to bed and NO MORE TALKING." She recently claimed that 3 guests asked for refunds due to the lack of sleep the night we were talking. Seriously? I simply don't believe this claim. Perhaps it's time to add some insulation to what must be paper thin walls.

Our policies are posted on our website and also in the House Information sheet on the table in each room or cottage, stating our Quiet Hours. We realize that our family home has not been built like a commercial hotel, so we rely on our guests staying in our house to help us create a peaceful sleep environment for those who don't want to be awake after 10 p.m.

The views from this B&B are awesome but the enjoyment is tempered by an innkeeper who enforces a Quiet Time policy that is not posted on her website, or mentioned in the guests' welcome letter. After 10 pm a "code of silence" is enforced. We were 4 adult friends having a birthday weekend with one of our favorite people - a Mat-Su Valley political legend -- but because we were talking at midnight we were threatened with eviction and the innkeeper threatened also to call the State Troopers. We weren't carousing, cussing, spitting or being racous! After some negotiation (thank goodness one of us is a therapist!), we were allowed to stay if we promised not to speak another word! Ridiculous policy and a very hostile innkeeper ruined our stay! Needless to say, we didn't take advantage of the comp breakfast the next morning!

I appreciate that this guest reported things factually correctly in her review. I guess it hadn't occurred to me that four elder ladies making a reservation here to share in a 90th birthday celebration would result in me asking them twice at 11 pm and midnight to bring the party down a few notches! I stand by my 10 pm-7 a.m. quiet hours times because guests can be here for any reason, and the vast majority come here for quality sleep and a great breakfast, since my place is a Bed and Breakfast. This was a situation where no one came out happy, as three other parties who had to be up early in the morning asked me to refund their stays due to noise. In retrospect, I should have found out more about what these ladies would like to do while they were here and referred them to a hotel or a late-night establishment where they could really enjoy themselves later at night.

Great location and super views from parts of this property. We were disappointed that the web site had not been updated to give details about the nearby road-building that casued a major diversion when try to get to this destination. however we were warmly welcomed and after the usual pleasantries were shown to our "lodge" in the grounds. To be honest it was a little tired - had been converted from a static caravan, but did have everything we needed except that curtaining could have been better (no curtain at all over the window in the door with view directly into the bedroom). That said, the breakfast served in the main house was great!

Would we stay here if in Palmer again - probably yes, but I think we would opt for one of the newer cabins / lodges rather than "Birch" that we had booked on this occasion.

Room Tip: Cheapest is not always best.

Thank you for letting us know the curtain on the door window was missing. It has been replaced for guests' privacy. We are happy to provide both high-end accommodations with amenities like jacuzzis, fireplaces and stunning mountain/glacier views, and also several economy rooms and guest apartments.

If you "just need a clean spot to lay your head for the night," you'll enjoy the same beautiful gardens and grounds, great breakfast and convenient location at $40-60 less per night than our newest luxury accommodations. To get a better idea of which ones will suit your tastes, please see our website for complete descriptions and photos/videos of the units, or we can advise you by phone or e-mail as well.

Because of the honest reviews of people from Trip Advisor we found:
Alaska Garden Gate B&B in Palmer.
Fabulous king size bed (this was the most comfy bed I slept in on my Alaska adventure), in downstairs large room w/sauna tub, separate shower/bathroom, kitchenette, lots of space w/great view of trees and the mat su valley, excellent breakfast: eggs, bacon, sausage, homemade large waffles, fresh fruit, juices.
The lovely host Karen told us lots of interesting stories about the people who live in Alaska...(Eskimo Ice Cream anyone??), and about Hachter Pass....a must drive to spot.
I would book with her again, nothing negative happened.

BTW...loved the rules about other B&B guests being "quite" after 10:00pm....that was much appreciated.

Perfect. Nothing else to say.
We stayed there in two different lodge, in 2 different times. Both time everything was ok... Near the lodges you are going to see a lot of beautiful flowers. I don't know who is the gardener but he/she is great.
100% approved. Best place in Palmer, with an honest price also.
