“Nice affordable place in town.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

I live in the bush, and always stay at the Narrows when in town. They have great service staff, clean rooms, and cart us all over town to get our supplies. When we come in to town on our way down to The States they take good care of us and or gear. We usually bring down a bunch of salmon, and the Narrows keeps it frozen until we get to the airport. They have a nice place to eat, and a small clean pub where you can hang out with locals and watch a game on one of the big screen TVs. There is a really nice friendly atmosphere, as one should expect in The Great State of Alaska.

Room Tip: They have waterfront rooms for more money with little porches. They are great if the weather is nice...

They aim to please. The on-site owners and their staff are able to meet requests for flexibility, offer advice, arrange charter trips, etc. Our room was oceanside, with a balcony. It was quite small but comfortable and very clean. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate available in the office all day. Pastries, bagels, yogurt in the morning. It was thrilling and picturesque to be on the balcony, watch and hear the many float planes taking off and landing (noisy but part of the adventure!), commercial fishing boats, eagles soaring and perched on pilings, jellyfish & starfish in the water, landings and takeoffs from the airport which is on an island across from the city of Ketchikan. An outstanding feature is the free shuttle service! The shuttle is available on call to take guests to and from the airport ferry, to downtown, and other places. Something special: We arrived late, but needed a meal. They had just closed the kitchen, but the dining room lady went back to talk to the cook - the frying oil was still hot, so he made us a special order of halibut fish and chips. That was a lovely welcome.

Room Tip: There is a tradeoff for having an oceanside room - if you are going to be bothered rather than exhil...

We just returned from a 2 week trip to SE Alaska. We stayed at the Narrows Inn & Marina while in Ketchikan. Very comfortable rooms, nice cushy beds. The owners and staff were all wonderful, and made sure we were happy with our visit. It was very convenient to have the bar and restaurant on the property, and I will review that seperately, but will say here that the food was outstanding! We had a lovely waterfront view, and it was great to have the balcony to sit and watch the water traffic.

Just checked out today (9-17-2012). The rooms are a bit small but it's ok since they're really only for sleeping. All the staff were so nice, super friendly and accommodating that I don't know why we would even consider staying elsewhere. Don, the owner, is a true Ketchikan gem. A really great guy. We'll definitely be back. And True Alaskan Charters (Bruce) is also a great guy, a class act and the perfect guide.

We have just returned from our second visit to the Narrows Inn. We have stayed in the queen oceanview rooms and also in Suite B. The oceanview rooms are somewhat small, but the balcony and cleanliness of the rooms make it a good value. For those who want a more spacious and luxurious room, the suites would be a better choice. Suite B has a king-sized bed, a small couch,a great view of the Narrows, and a large bathroom. While there is some smoke from the bar and lounge below, there are air purifiers in the hallway and in the room. We are non-smokers and did not have problems with smelling smoke. The restaurant is a really treat--the seafood is excellent. While the Narrows Inn is located out of the main part of town, you can arrange shuttle service to town, to the airport ferry, and wherever else you wish to go. The hotel and restaurant staff are the best that you can find and are a wealth of information about what to do in Ketchikan. For anglers, there is a freezer for fish storage. Wal-Mart is just a short walk and is a good place for getting your fishing license and other last minute supplies. Keep in mind that Alaska hotels may not be as luxurious as in the "lower 48" and prices are higher. We are headed back to Ketchikan next year and will book again with our new friends at the Narrows Inn.

We stay here when on our way out of Ketchikan it is a good place for an overnight. The rooms are small but clean and have a good shower to get ready for traveling. Coffee, complimentary breakfast, good deal that way. max people per room is three with the double bed plus a single in the room.
The best rooms are the suites, if you want a super big comfy room. They are more expensive but worth it if you are staying more than one night with a family.
They have a really good restaurant, a marina and are within walking distance to Walmart and the Day Spa.

Room Tip: the suites are really the best. But if you are on a budget any of the other rooms are fine, and they...

I was able to get a reservation here for the same day, so had no choice of rooms. the one i had was smallish, but perfectly functional. My room faced the reception building (mine was the building furthest from the water), so i was awakened early every morning by their shuttle van backing up (beep beep beep) and occasionally conversations in the lot between. But then, i sleep with the window open and it faced the lot.

having said all that, i have no complaints as the price was right, the van service excellent (i think they would have shuttled me anywhere within reason--not just back and forth to the hotel), and the staff very friendly and accommodating.

the continental breakfast looked a bit spartan, so i had a good breakfast in the restaurant every day. The service was 'relaxed", but friendly; just get up and help yourself to more coffee :-)

The Narrows Inn is the only year round hotel located on the water. We have panoramic views from our restaurant and lounge. We have an assortment of rooms ranging from our garden view, to ocean view, and three themed suites. Our shuttle bus is on demand for trips to town and the airport ferry. This is where "the bridge to nowhere" was supposed to be built, thus you must take a ferry from the island where the airplanes land to our island where the town is located. We will pick you up and take you to the hotel located 1 mile north of the airport ferry, making it extremely easy access coming to and from the airport. Our restaurant is known for its excellent food, especially the cedar planked salmon and halibut. ... more   less
