“Cruising Alaska”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

August 15, 2013 We arrived ketchikan last week via cruise ship and wanted to experience Cape Fox Lodge restaurant. Beautiful setting, they were very accomodating with a table out of the sun. The meal was very good but we realized that our coleslaw wasen't brought out so I asked for it. I was told that it didn't come with coleslaw. The waiter did bring out one order and said that it was complimentary and not on the menu. We were not going to argue with him so we just let it go. Then I heard a woman in the kitchen yell out so that we could hear "All they want is free coleslaw." I was very upset to be accused of wanting free coleslaw. What was the price of my small dish worth, was it going to break them? IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PART OF THE MEAL. We decided to forget about it and then all of a sudden other people were asking for their coleslaw too. They were rude to us. My husband still gave a generous tip but we should have gone to the management, we just had to get back to the ship. I intend to let the management know what happened now that we are back home.

Thank you for writing a review of our restaurant. I am sorry that your experience was not all it should have been. Coleslaw does come with many of the entrees on the menu so I'm not sure what you ordered. Regardless we strive to make our guests happy, and the server was correct in giving you the coleslaw without question. I am sorry that you overheard another server commenting in a negetive way. There is always a manager on duty. If you bring your complaint to their attention right away we can correct the problem for you. We hope you will stop by again the next time you are in Ketchikan.

We spent two nights at the Cape Fox and highly recommend it. Views over the bay are spectacular, room was spacious and comfortable. Front desk was a little slow and somewhat inept, but pleasant. Our room was quiet and clean. We paid nothing extra for an ocean view but got it anyway; most rooms have views. Restaurant breakfast very good. Dinner was fine, but expensive, and service somewhat slow. I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Quietest rooms are in the wing away from the restaurant. All face the ocean and have great views.

Friendly and helpful staff. Clean room, with plenty of power outlets and good internet access. The cable car ride to town is a must do! Location is right next to tourist attractions. Restaurant menu selection and staff are excellent. I would gladly stay here again.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are highly recommended.

Had to have a place to stay overnight in Ketchikan and having stayed at this property previously I booked again. it is in a good location. The rooms are quite basic but the surrounding area makes up for all this.
The only comment is that the restaurant takes last orders at 8.30pm. I arrived at 8.20pm, The restaurant Manager was very accommodating and let me in after taking my bags to the room. Things like this make you want to come back to a property. The food at he Hotel is very good, if not a bit pricey , but well worth it.
A good sleep in a very comfortable bed and all the Fresh Alaskan air coming in your room is stimulating. Would not chose anywhere else in Ketchikan to stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the same floor as reception so you do not have to carry bags up any stairs. Als...

Stayed here while in Ketchikan on business for three days. It's a great place with nice views, and serendipitously right beside the municipal conference facility where I was working. I paid the extra $9 for an ocean view room, and it was a nice view. While we were there, they were having staffing shortages and turnover, so the front desk staff were a bit out to lunch and the coffee shop was closed due to lack of employees, but that did not really lessen the quality of the stay. Fridge and microwave in the room were appreciated for avoiding having to eat every meal at a restaurant (there's a big Safeway in town). We called to get the free shuttle from the airport.

Room Tip: Pay the $9 extra for an ocean view

Had a recommendation for the Cape Fox Lodge and decided to spend the extra $$$ for a room overlooking the water. Ended up with an awesome corner room and loved the extra space. Food was really good despite the carpet in the dinning room being well past any chance of recovery. Interesting in that a co-located bar had smoking allowed, which tended to make the far end of the dining room unacceptable for us. However, closer to the entrance, we didn't find the smoke to be an issue.
Service in the dining room was slow but after a day or two we realized that maybe this is just how things happen on Alaska time or maybe just in Ketchikan. Check in wasn't till 3 pm but we managed to get in by 2:30 pm.
While being dubious about the location and having to rely on the tram, we loved the central location and using the tram, which is free to guests. Otherwise $2, which seems to be a draw for the cruisers.
No hesitation in recommending the Cape Fox Lodge. Peter and Amy

The view of Ketchikan from the dining room is lovely. The rooms are nice and roomy. There is shuttle service available and a good restaurant on site. The location is above the hubub of Ketchikan yet just a few minutes walk (after the ride down on the finnicular). I thought the location was perfect - quiet at night and yet close to shopping & dinning. The decor of the lodge featured photos & artifacts of native culture - very interesting. The coffee nook made very good cappucinos.
