“Sweetest Sweet Shop in Southeast Alaska!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

The mermaids at Sweet Mermaids go out of their way to create a warm, and welcoming atmosphere and are incredibly kind and hospitable to each person who walks through their doors, and the sweets and food are tremendous!!

To speak to the comment from mamafrenley, when people come in for a cup of coffee and stay hours to use the internet, they make it impossible for those who want to come for lunch to get a place to sit down. I'm sure that they didn't mean to leave you with the impression that they were asking you to leave, however, it was probably a culmination of dealing with all the people who abuse the service. Many people are there trying to soak up the free WiFi, while drinking a $1 cup of drip coffee. These Mermaids are trying to make a living!! In a very small location with only 6 tables, space is a valuable commodity. Check your email while eating lunch, fine, but be considerate of others. Crew members congregate outside of the shop (8 were standing up against the wall today as I walked by) which gives the appearance that the wait for service would be long and that locals probably don't have time to stop for a bite. This is not the case.

As a resident of this community who works in the downtown area and is in the shop 4-5 times a week, I would like to see this business succeed and thrive. The local owners work 7 days a week, 10 hours a day, for 5 months straight. Let's show em a little love! <3

“Great Coffee Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

Stopped in while wandering Ketchikan. Cappuccino and Scone were a bonus, but best was the welcoming staff & cozy relaxing atmosphere. A pleasant break from the Jewelry store gauntlet.

“Coffee and a snack”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

Good coffee - tasty snacks and tremendously fine service. My sesame seed bagel was a delight with cream cheese on top and my wife's drink was was served in a glass.
This is a great place to stop and enjoy the ebb and flow about you in Ketchikan.

“Good food and great coffee”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2014

I had a breakfast burrito. It was the best ever! I also stop by for coffee very often. Sweet Mermaid's is an all around good place to go. Keep in mind that being a good place can mean it gets busy.

“Who wants to go where they're unwelcome?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2014

We are crew members onboard a ship that docks every week in Ketchikan, all summer long. Mermaids has always been our favorite place to go and we come every week for a coffee, sometimes a snack and sometimes a bit of wifi.

Today we made our usual visit and due to the pouring rain and frigid temps outside, we stayed a bit longer than normal. Apparently, we overstayed our welcome as we were asked to leave by the owner because we were taking up a table in their small establishment and staying on the wifi too long!! We were using our AT&T service because the wifi wasn't working anyway.. And out of 5 tables, us and one other were taken!! No one was waiting for service or to sit down and I was just about to grab another coffee when the owner came over.

Rest assured, we will not ever be coming back. To ask a paying, loyal customer to leave and make room for others when no one's waiting is 'bad business'. I am sad that we were treated this way and I hope that Sweet Mermaids doesn't continue to treat customers like myself in the same way.
