“Best Fishing Trip Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

We booked a fishing trip with Captain Johnny last August. They were waiting for us when our cruise ship arrived. We promptly boarded and were fishing within minutes. All of us caught plenty of fish and had a great time. More fish than the ice chest would hold. Saw bald eagles up close. Packaged the fish and sent to us. Still enjoying the salmon. The smoked salmon and cookies were a real nice touch. Thanks for a wonderful experience!

“Salmon fishing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Had a great trip with Experience One Charters in Ketchikan. Captain Johnny and his wife gave us a great trip. We caught 10 silvers in a half day trip and also got a free whale trip too. Saw a humpback breach completely out of the water feeding near us. He put us on the fish and if we had been a little better at grabbing a rod we could have caught a few more. I would go with him any time I was in Ketchikan. Picked us up right at the cruise ship and would recommend that you go directly to them with out going thru the ship. Even had homemade cookies and salmon pate'...gourmet fishing!

“What a Day Fishing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

We recently returned from our Alaska trip and a great experience with Captain Johnny & JR of experience one charters. We had a virtually perfect weather day - one that the Captain said we should not speak of out loud (as he put his fingers to his lips in a sign of silence!). We (family of 5) were met right at our doc for the Coral Princess (amazing, just a few steps from the ship). We took a scenic ride out to what was to be a great fishing area just about 20 minutes away. After a very informative talk on the kind of fish to expect to catch we put our poles and line out and with in 5 minutes the fish began biting. Within the first 30 minutes we caught 3 pink salmon. Prior to fishing Johnny asked if we wanted to purchase king salmon stamps ($10 each) to take a king salmon. We, not knowing much, declined. So, within the first half hour we caught not one, but two king salmon on two lines at the same time! Crazy - they were big boys and we had to let them go. Well after that we said, let's get some king stamps and purchased two. We ended up catching one other even larger king and a few more pink. We actually lined two other kings but they got away. All in all, a great day of fishing with some fun folks. Totally would suggest going out with Johnny and JR.

“More salmon than we could count!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

We booked a 4 hour private fishing trip with Captain Johny and Experience One. We arrived in Ketchikan on our cruise ship, the m/s Zaandam, on July 20. Captain Johny met us at the dock and it was a short walk to his boat, where we met his nephew and first mate, JR. Their boat was well equipped and smoothly operated. It had a nice indoor cabin where we could retreat from the rain. It rained a little bit but this was expected for Ketchikan. Captain Johny had very nice Columbia rain jackets on board for everyone to wear. Captain Johny had brought along homemade cookies and salmon spread that his wife had made - yum! We were fishing in no time with 6 lines in the water for our family of 6 - me and my husband and our 4 kids, ages 14 - 30. My husband was the first to reel in a pink. The action was pretty slow for awhile and 2 of our sons, the most avid fishermen in the family, had yet to catch any even though we rotated lines every time someone caught one. It was still a nice relaxing time, being able to watch the eagles along the shore line with their binoculars. We saw more eagles on this trip than our eagle watching tour in Haines, AK! There were too many to count. Finally after about 2 hours everyone had caught a fish. And then all of a sudden, it really picked up and at one point, 5 people had a fish on the line and Johny and JR were pretty busy! All in all we caught at least 23 salmon, all pinks. We kept 18 and elected to have them cleaned, filleted, and shipped home. This cost us about $300 for 44 lbs of fish. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip, Johny and JR worked hard to take care of us and were very personable. The reason this trip was so smooth was because there were 2 guys. We considered some outfits that only had a captain. Although these outfits may have been less expensive, we felt that having both Johny and JR onboard enabled us to do a lot more fishing. Additionally Johny has lived in this area for a significant amount of years and really knew where to go.

“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

Experience One says it all. We had an amazing time on the trip and both Johnny and JR were extremely friendly and professional. We were off the ship and fishing within 15 minutes. They made it feel like we were fishing among friends as they told stories of past fishing trips and more. This was our first excursion on our cruise and it set the tone for the rest of them. If you are going fishing in Ketchikan, book Experience One!
