I cannot say enough good things about this ferry system. On our June-July visit we were on 3 different ferries, the LeConte, the Malispina, and the Columbia. They were all fabulous with staff members who were very friendly, helpful, and professional. We were on the Columbia for 4 nights and 3+ days. We did not have a car but did have a stateroom on the Columbia. the cafeteria was good and the dining room was fabulous. We loved our 4-bed stateroom with large window and private bath. We spent most of our time during the day viewing the wonderful scenery from seats in the forward boat deck. Great views that I did not want to leave. There is also a theater with comfy lounge chairs. For those unfamiliar with the ferry system, you should know that you will get to meet a lot of real Alaskans who all have interesting stories to tell. Also, people sleep in common areas including a semi heated, open solarium on top, some tent sites, and on floors, chairs, and couches in the theater and elsewhere. There is something for everybody, including kids. A nice gift shop, but no wifi and no exercise room. Would do this over and over again if I could afford it. Kudos to the State of Alaska. Transportation done better than any private enterprise I have ever used.
