We participated in the "cruise-ship-only" version of the tour that takes people inside the clan house. It was definitely informative and provided interesting insight into the lives of the indigenous people who live there now and their ancestors. We were able to talk to some of the local residents who are involved in reclaiming their culture and language, which was fascinating. Without that "insider's tour" the visit would have been disappointing. The totem poles installed in the village are beautiful, but hearing their stories from the locals is even more interesting. We came away with some new insights. The tour was expensive, true, but had we not participated, we wouldn't have understood a lot of what we were seeing. Thanks to the interpretive center, the docents and the locals demonstrating their crafts and customs, the visit was memorable.
