“Under staffed but great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

Not sure how this hotel was renovated as room decor and bathrooms were quite dated. Beds are comfortable however and great views from ocean side. Best to have rooms a few floors up and away from elevator. Hotel has 7 floors. Hotel offers shuttle from airport, about 20 min away, but didn't have enough drivers. Our flight had 13 people waiting for the shuttle but van only could hold 10 passengers. Driver just said he couldn't fit us in and said he'd try to come back. We took the hint and waited for a cab. When we got to the hotel, the van driver was trying to check in the guests who he brought in. The next day, we went on an all day excursion and when we came back, our room hadn't been cleaned yet. We were able to find housekeeping for some dry towels. The next day, we were supposed to take a shuttle to an excursion out of the airport but they only schedule shuttle every 2 hours, with the timing that we'd be waiting for 2 hours. Best bet is to arrange pick up from the excursion company vs hotel shuttle. Our toilet didn't flush but was told maintenance hours meant we'd have to wait until 8 am to get it fixed. We figured out how to fix it ourselves vs going to the lobby bathroom. We were told that the hotel was full but it seemed it was only staffed to serve half the guests there. Best part is that it's close to dining and shops yet just far enough away from cruise ships.

Room Tip: Free wi-fi but very limited in availability.

We stayed at this hotel for one night, 8/3/14. It was clean and appeared to be recently remodeled. No air conditioning so take a small fan if you get hot! Great location for walking to town. Bed was GREAT. Hotel about the level of a newer Comfort Inn.

Room Tip: High floor. We were on the mountain side, with lots of trees and foliage. We left the window open...

We checked in on Sat July 26th. Had our reservations incorrect. The folks working on the weekend could not help us much and said he manager would be in on Monday. When the manager got in on Monday morning, he was very helpful and refunded our one night stay for our trouble. He was very nice and said this is not how things are done there. We moved to a different hotel after sat night.
The rooms were nice and good location. I would give this hotel another chance!

Tina

Room Tip: Do not get a room by the elevator, to noisy!

The water view rooms are best in Juneau. Great view of all harbor operations and channel mountains. Convenient to all activities and away from the daily cruiser crowd. Quiet atmosphere, Very Comfortable
bed . Only issue was 1pm airport shuttle driver did not show up. Finally at 1:15 desk clerk ordered cab only after giving away four of the 6 seats to NON HOTEL travelers-HELLO.

Room Tip: Water view rooms are by far the best view rooms in Juneau

The hotel just had a facelift completed in the rooms an common area and is reasonably priced for Juneau. The staff goes from excellent and customer focused to totally incompetent. The day staff at the desk was very attentive but the night person took 15 minutes to check us in while six additional folks waited in line. I hope they take the time to train and motivate the staff and ensure they understand customer care.

It is Alaska, so common sense hotel functionality isn't a given. The bed was comfy, I got a good night's sleep, and the view of the waterfront was nice, so in that respect the hotel was a success. Horrible WiFi, cold showers, bad irons and ironing boards, no air circulation, and indifferent staff are just by products of a hotel with little to no competition and owners who don't care enough to make an effort.

Room Tip: Get a waterfront room for the view.

The goldbelt benefits greatly from limited competition. The hotel and rooms are very standard. Nothing uncomfortable, nothing wonderful. Middle of the road type of bed and room size. The hotel staff ranged from complete incompetent to very nice. We were actually triple charged for some reason, more than likely due to our using booking.com to make our reservation. Evidently only one person was capable of helping us resolve this, however once we got her, she was wonderful to work with.
The location is great. Right across the street from the hangar bar, and around the corner from the best breakfast shop in town, the silverbow.
If you can get a room at the silverbow, check there first. Only book with goldbelt if all your other choices are booked first.
Bonus, there's an avis rental car shop in the lobby. This is really convenient and I believe on of the only shops in town.

Room Tip: get one facing the water if you can. Our room was facing the back of the property, though we did hav...
