Our one-week stay at this hotel was a game show prize, booked through a travel agent supplied by the game show. Must admit that we got a bit concerned when we read a few negative comments about the hotel on some online hotel review sites; however, we were pleasantly surprised with the hotel. It has a new owner! Our room had new carpet, new flooring, new drapes, a new bedspread, nice furniture, fresh paint, environmentally-friendly lightbulbs, and a clean bathroom. I'd emailed with a "local" on this site who had told me that the hotel had changed ownership recently and was without a liquor license, plus someone else had advised us to get a room on the mountain side versus the harbor side, for a quieter room. This was great advice, and because of that we had a much less-traveled road noise experience. Indeed, the new owners are in the process of securing the liquor license, so the bar part of the restaurant was closed. However, because we aren't "drinkers," this wasn't a problem for us. We were told that they should be getting their liquor license in a few more weeks, by a very-friendly young man at the front desk...so, those that like
to drink should be happy very soon. The hotel's restaurant was open, and we had a very delicious fish dinner there our first night -- excellent , moist halibut and some of the best halibut "fish and chips" ever tasted. We enjoyed a very delicious breakfast there nearly every morning of our stay. We were quite fond of #D -- scrambled eggs, French toast, and bacon. Tables overlook wonderful views of Aurora Harbor and Douglas Island. There was a van that picked us up at the airport and dropped us back at the end of our stay. Very convenient. Only negatives would be: (1) the t.v. could have been a bit larger and (2) one night we were surprised when we were told that the restaurant had run out of "orders" ...but we just ordered in a pizza, and (3) the kitchenette unit that housed a refrig, microwave, sink, and two burners might be next in line for an upgrade.
