I spent 6 nights at the Alaska Wolf Lodge in Juneau in mid May. Juneau was outstanding, and I never experienced the problems that others reported from the local people. I found them to be warm and extremely hospitable.
First, the house itself was wonderful. The rooms were very large (I stayed in the Mt. Juneau suite and the Jack London suite). I noticed that there were some smaller rooms as well, going for less dollars per night. I don't know what the other reviewers were talking about when they mentioned no common room. There certainly was one, and it was well appointed with a breathtaking view of the mountains and the channel,
Second, There must be some mistake regarding other's reviews. Breakfast was incredible, freshly made and world-class. Jeff, the owner, cooked each morning except one. (He had warned me when I made the reservation that the first morning would not have breakfast because he would be gone,) The family was never a problem, very friendly and a joy to hang around with. Plenty of advise for what to do/see and lots of stories of the area and it's history.
Jeff is well connected in the area and can help get whatever you need. I thoroughly enjoyed the comraderie of the people who stayed there. We were encouraged to chat in the great room or out on the decks.
I was in Juneau on business so I did not get as much sight seeing done as I would have liked, so most of my experience with Juneau is from inside an office building or from the Lodge, but everything about my stay was wonderful.
Stay at the Wolf Lodge, you will love it.
