“Great afternoon trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

We booked this tour on a whim while walking around Juneau. We had heard about the glacier and were told it was a must see, so we passed up our original plan of a hike and took this bus tour. Our guide was great and hilarious. She was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The glacier itself was beautiful and we saw 2 bears eating the fish!!

“Nice Surprise on Tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

I had read many reviews that recommended taking the Glacier Express to the Mendenhall Glacier. It was our intention to do just that. We were trying to find where to board the Express when a representative of Last Chance Tours (Joseph) asked if we needed help. He talked us into taking his tour instead. It not only got us to the glacier, but got us a city tour in the bargain. Joseph told us we'd have a guaranteed seat on his bus as opposed to the Express bus. So, for $25.00 each we decided to go with Last Chance Tours and I'm glad we did. Our driver, Walter, is a native of Juneau and he gave us lots of good information about the city. My only disappointment, and the reason we were going to take the Express bus in the first place, is that I didn't feel as if we had enough time at the Mendenhall. I believe you need a minimum of two hours to enjoy all aspects of the park. Walter dropped us off and told us he'd be back in 45 minutes to pick us up. Our tour did not include the Visitors' Center. We would've had to pay admission to that if we wanted to go in. Since our time was limited, we chose to spend our time outdoors and enjoy the scenery. We had the option of walking over to the falls, which we would have loved to do. Again, time was an issue. We opted instead to go down a little wooded path where was saw sockeye salmon and missed, by seconds, a bear fishing for her lunch. By the time were able to see her, she had eaten and was taking her siesta. A park ranger was handy, keeping anyone from monopolizing the railing area. He was making sure that everyone got a chance to see her.

Walter picked us up promptly and said we had a few extra minutes on our way back to town so he was going to stop somewhere special. This turned out to be the highlight of the tour for me and we surely wouldn't have seen this had we taken the Glacier Express. Walter took us to The Chapel by the Sea. The little log cabin church itself is not that impressive, but the view is spectacular. When you step in the door at the back of the chapel you are met with a view of the Mendenhall Glacier reflected in a lake framed by pine trees. It was so unexpected and beautiful that I actually gasped out loud. According to Walter, not all tours go here, so I would ask beforehand if you choose Last Chance Tours to make sure you'll get to see this awe-inspiring spot.

When we got back to town Walter told us that a mother bear and 2 cubs had been seen in recent weeks walking the streets of Juneau at about 10 pm or so looking for food. He said as long as you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. Unfortunately for us, we had to be back onboard our ship, so we didn't get to see Mama and her babies.

“Great Tour of the City of Juneau and Mendenhall Glacier!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Great tour with Todd! He is very funny and had many interesting insights. The glacier was neat to see and we also saw a bear, bald eagle, and lots and lots of salmon running upstream. We booked this tour through our cruise travel agency, but it is cheaper to do it directly. Highly recommend!

“Excellent Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

When our helicopter tour got cancelled due to weather we walked over to the line of tours being offered outside the Mt Roberts station. Mark was very nice and give us an overview of the tours offered. We decided to book the 2 1/2 hour Juneau and Mendenhall Glacier tour and were not disappointed. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, The bus was clean and roomy. It felt like we had enough time at each location and were back to the ship on time. I recommend giving "Last Chance tours" a chance.

“Tour guide made trip worthwhile”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013 via mobile

Took a 2 1/2 hour tour of Juneau and Mendenhall Glacier. Our tour guide (Grizzly Adams lookalike), was exceptional. Our tour included the city park, Mendenhall Glacier and a few other points of interest.
Very informative and comfortable ride.
Note: for just a few dollars (I believe $8), you can hop on a direct shuttle and spend several hours at Mendenhall Glacier. Our 55 min just was not long enough, but a good intro for our next trip to Juneau.
