“Red Dog”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

It was fun, with waitresses in period costumes. Lots of things on the walls to look at. Food was good, although typical bar fare, nothing spectacular.

“Local color”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

This is a fun stop for lunch while you are in Juneau. Lots to local color. It is crowded, food is so-so but not expensive and worth the stop for fun. Go early as it fills up fast. Souvenir shop next door, very commercial--but it probably helps support it and keep prices reasonable so all can enjoy.

“Not all its made out to be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

I'm sure this place can get rowdy but it was very quiet when I visited on a Friday night. The food is good and decorations are a lot of fun to look at.

“Character, Spirit, and "Old West” Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

The Red Dog Saloon is a landmark in downtown Juneau. It was founded during Juneau's mining era, and has been in operation for decades, though under various ownership. It was recognized by the Alaskan State Legislature for its longevity as the oldest man made tourist attraction in Juneau. It lies in the shadow of the cruise ship docks and is a haven for tourists and townsfolk alike. As most will say, "it is a must do in Juneau".

ATMOSPHERE - Upon arrival, we found a line going out the door, but decided to wait for admittance. We were glad we did. The place is filled with memorabilia, along with character, spirit, and "old west" charm. It has an unmistakable upbeat, lively vibe. Trophy wildlife mounts line the walls, sawdust covers the floors, and visually, there is much to take in.

ENTERTAINMENT - The entertainer we heard, a guitar player and song stylist, Brian Gayle, was totally entertaining. He had a dry wit and developed banter with the audience. Several guest performers also took to the stage while we were there.

FOOD - There is a winter menu and a summer menu, offering pub fare from burgers, wings, sandwiches, pizza, etc. to full dinners. Prices were most reasonable and the food good and nicely presented. There is a large selection of beers on tap. Try the Alaskan Amber - wish we could find it in Massachusetts! Specialty drinks are also offered. The service staff was very attentive.

A gift shop is attached to buy Red Dog Saloon memorabilia.

A stop here is a real highlight while visiting Juneau.

“Fun place to stop in real quick”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014 via mobile

This is a pretty fun tourist trap. There is almost always a bit of a wait to get in, but it's usually not too bad. This time, we just stopped in for a beer and enjoyed the atmosphere. There was pretty good live music and Alaskan beer on tap. All of the waitresses where period costumes and were fairly attentive. Definitely check this place out, even if for a quick drink.
