Go to one of the visitor information booths (cruise ship terminal) for a map of the trail. If you're in fairly good health and shape, recommend to go with a buddy or partner on this trail or any trail, bring water, some energy bars or a sandwich, a jacket in case it gets windy or cold, a camera. It's always a good practice to let someone you know where you're going, in case something happens to you while on the trail.
It's sometimes challenging, sometimes difficult, depending on the ground how dry or wet it is, if it's very muddy, better to pass it up and not go as it can be dangerous. It can be exhausting but fun also. Take rests frequently if you're not used to it, don't over exert yourself and have fun.
Buy some food before going onto the trail, or at the top there's a restaurant when they're open during the cruise ship season. You may also elect to ride the Tram down (minimum purchase of shopping or dining allows a free ride down) instead of hiking back down.
