My 3-ship of motorcycles pulled into Hyder with no reservations or idea of where we would stay. The town is no-frills but reaks of the wild west...all the roads are unpaved and everyone we passed gave us a friendly nod or wave. After riding around for a few minutes we found the SealaskaInn. It's no name-brand hotel, but we were considering camping and when we walked into their pub we felt like we had found a base in Hyder. Everyone there was warm and friendly and we took both lunch and dinner there.....both were good. We took rooms at this Inn and they were very clean and we were very comfortable. I consider it one of the real travel bargins of my 3 month oddessy across the US and Canada. If you are traveling with a prissy wife or other high maintenance partner, Hyder is not your stop.....but if you want to see what Alaska really is all about, want to get the scoop from their engaging locals, this place is all about Alaskan flavor.
