“"THE SECOND, AND MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR ALASKA FISHING TRIP"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2011

homer IS the 'halibut capital of the world,' and
catching your daily limit of two of these delicious
fish is very common. depending on the type of
trip you chose, and the fishing methods used,
several varieties of salmon, including 'king,' are
also caught in the waters of kachemak bay, and
the cook inlet.
while getting these seafood delights from the
sea to the dock isn't all that difficult...getting your
catch home safely, could be another matter.
that's where coal point seafoods, conveniently
located right in the middle of the charter fleet, on
the homer spit, really delivers. thanks to their fine
service, when that great catch hits the deck, you
won't find yourself wondering... "now what?"
your boat's mates will clean your fish--all you
need do is take the fillets to coal point. they'll
weigh your fish, and ask how you want it por-
tioned. then, they'll vacuum pack it, flash freeze
it, and prepare it for shipping...and their fees are
very reasonable.
while they will arrange fed-ex shipping, i chose
to pick-up my processed fish on the last day of
my stay in alaska. it was packed into a cooler in
front of me, boxed, and banded for shipment. i
chose a larger cooler...and filled the additional
space with items from some of coal point's
supurb retail offerings... king salmon, various
smoked fish, local shrimp, and scallops. the
package weighed 43 pounds. since i fly fre-
quently, and don't pay baggage charges, that
box flew as part of my checked baggage...saving
the considerable fed-ex tariff.
counting the 225-mile drive back to anchor-
age, and three flights to get home to florida, the
return trip took a total of 26 hours WHEN WE
OPENED THAT COOLER...THE FISH WAS STILL
FROZEN SOLID... and looked just as it did
when the box was sealed in alaska. we've been
enjoying great halibut dinners for over a month
now, since my return, and because of the very
correct freezing process used by coal point,
the taste and texture is as if the fish just
came off the boat. a visit to coal point seafoods
will allow you to continue enjoying your alaska
trip, weeks and months after you've returned
home!!
