“great ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

We are a family of four we two 11 year olds so we did not know what to expect when we arrived at Trails End. It was in the middle of nowhere. The trip could not have been better. We went 13 miles that included hills, some steep, beachfront and narrow trails. While it was a leisurly walk, we did have the excitement of going though a 3 to 4 foot deep river a few times and things like that. Mark is what makes the trip go from very good to a great experience. He is a true cowboy with stories to tell. He relates to the kids as well and adults and does it with humor and knowledge. We all really enjoyed ourselves and would recommend this trip to anyone wanting a great horseback ride.

“Highlight of our Alaska trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

My 10-year old daughter and I took this ~5 hour trail ride and absolutely loved it. My daughter has been riding horses for 5 years so she's quite competent and she had the time of her life. The scenery is beautiful, Mark and Lime (his helper) were a lot of fun, the horses were in great shape and happy, and the ride itself is a great mix of things with river crossings, beach riding, wooded trails, and open pastures. We'll definitely be doing this one again when we get back to Alaska.

“Best Trail Ride Ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

If you are in Homer, and want to ride horses, Mark's Trails End Horseback ride is a must. He is definitely a real cowboy, and has story after story to tell about Alaska. Mark has a wonderful sense of humor, and his helper, Lime, is a sweetheart, too. The horses are very gentle, and the scenery is gorgeous! It is, without a doubt, money well spent. You will see some of the most beautiful countryside in Alaska, in the very best company. A day my family will always remember.

“Best ride ever!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

My wife Sandy and I have rode out of many stables. This was the best value we have ever seen. Mark really knows his stuff and he is a real cowboy that makes you feel like you are too. It is a very enjoyable 4 hour ride with a brake for lunch. He took us out to see his cattle out on the range while there we saw a Grizzly Bear with her 2 cubs. Got lots of great pictures. During the ride you won't believe the view, it is breath taking! It truly is worth the visit with Mark and his very gentle horses.

“Mark Makes The Difference”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2012

Being that Trails End is the only horsebacking riding outfit anywhere around, it's kind of hard to compare it with others. But there's no need anyway; it would be darn hard to top this one.

After trying to reach Mark for quite some time, we finally touched base and arranged our trip. Note: Mark truly is a "cowboy". He is very busy running a successful cattle operation and rarely does he get a chance to get to the phone. So don't get discouraged. Be persistent and know that he'll get back to you. I'm sure he's around much more in the summer time so you probably won't run into any delays.

Mark had us all saddled up and ready to go right when he said. He was terrific, especially with our two kids, ages 8 and 9. Even though our kids were not experienced with horses, I had all the confidence that he knew they'd be safe.

What was truly great about this experience is that Mark treated this as if he enjoyed it. And I believe he did. He could've been watching the clock or saying "don't do this" or "don't do that". But he made the trip memorable by being himself. A great guy and someone who is passionate about his work. I enjoyed talking with him and learning about how he leads his day-to-day life. Though I'm sure it's a hard way of life, it's great to see someone happy with the decisions he's made and living his dream. In the end, it shows.

I would recommend this adventure to anyone traveling to Homer. The cost is very reasonable and the experience is one of a lifetime.
