The Earth Song Lodge is a magical place located north of Denali National Park. The view of the alaskan range from the Lodge is awesome; the artistry of the decor, landscaping, and slideshows is reflective of Alaska. The owners, Jon and Karin, are personable, available, and helpful. We stayed at the Earthsong to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and could not have selected a more perfect place. In the mornings and evenings it was so quiet, we could hear the birds rustling in the tundra from our cabin deck. The cabins are clean, cozy, and comfortable. Several of the highlights of our stay included nightly slide shows and discussions of Alaskan seasons and sled dog expeditions as well as a tour of the sled dog kennels. The Denali National Park, entrance is easily accessible. We spent several days hiking at the Park and saw grizzly bears, marmots, caribou, fox, and goshawk fledglings, and on our last day a full view of Mt McKinley. it was amazing! Earthsong Lodge is a place we hope to return to someday.

I absolutely love this place, and hope that some day I can go back. The cabins are fantastic. The little deli/coffee shop is great. The owners are fantastic, and so helpful, and the guy who runs the place is from my home state of New Jersey!

We had such a wonderful time. The owners are very knowledgeable, and the lodge is set out on a clearing, overlooking a beautiful mountain range. There is no more beautiful place in the world than where Earthsong is. I envy the owners for getting to live there year round!

It's a short drive into Denali, there's some dude that owns horses in the proximity of Earthsong, and there is plenty to do. I can't even really emphasize how incredible this place is. I'll never forget staying here -- I travel a lot, too, but staying here was the ultimate adventure: it was beautiful, and relaxing, and there is plenty to do. The little cabins are charming, the beds are comfortable and the place is 100% Alaska.

While looking for a special place to stay in Denali, my wife and I "stumbled upon" EarthSong Lodge while searching TripAdvisor. With a minor change to our itinerary and some helpful juggling of cabins by owners Jon and Karen Nierenberg, we booked a three night stay at EarthSong — and we couldn't have been happier.

The location was exactly what we wanted, slightly off the beaten path, away from the commercial "glitz" of downtown Denali, and smack dab in the middle of true Alaskan beauty. The 25-minute drive from EarthSong to Denali National Park is spectacular, so don't be put off by its slightly "distant" location.

The log cabins themselves were incredibly cozy and comfortable, individually themed with accompanying decor designed by Karen. While not grand in size, they were just the degree of rustic-ness and comfort that we were after. Definitely an exceptional value.

A side bonus to lodging here is the dogsledding operation that Jon runs out of EarthSong. While obviously not operational in the summertime, Jon offers lodge guests friendly and informative tours of the kennels. Besides being full of interesting tales of his sledding adventures, Jon is great with the guests and no question is ever too dumb to be answered with enthusiasm and respect. We were fortunate in our timing in that we had a chance to get up close and personal with a recent litter of husky pups. My wife darn near pocketed one of the adorable pups.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights at EarthSong Lodge and would go back in a heartbeat. Jon and Karen were exceptionally friendly and accommodating hosts — Jon also presents a slideshow each night above Henry's Café, the lodge dining facility — and we left feeling like we had spent three days living a true Alaskan experience. If you're heading to Denali, we can't imagine a better place to stay.

This is a nice enough place to stay, clean little cabin-style rooms but there isn't even a coffee pot in the room and you can't rely on the on-sight cafe to be open. We were there for 3 nights and only found it open 1 morning; it was never open for an evening meal. There is almost nothing in Healy except bad food and high prices. The waitress at Rosie's diner was a delight but the food was abominable.
Of course Denali is worth the trip even if you have to suffer a little bit to see it - just be prepared, bring your own snacks and meals if possible!

Management response from Karin Nierenberg, Owner

The author of "Be aware of some problems..." is absolutely correct...but the problems are not with our lodge. Since reading this review, we have contacted the travel agent who booked this guest to find out what was the problem. And the problem was simple and easy to avoid. The guest came at the very end of the Denali summer season, when almost all businesses are closed (including restaurants) and most of the Denali Park Road is not open. When booking the trip, the Agent notified the guest that the planned visitation time was not recommended, due to the lateness of the season. But the guest did not want to change plans. A world of difference would have been made, including an enjoyable stay at EarthSong, if the guest came a week or so earlier. Since we have seen evening temperatures down to 0 degrees F the third week of September, we have a policy of closing the coffeehouse down before that due to freezing waterlines and our location on permafrost (this isn't Kansas anymore!). This schedule is in our reservation form, and told to all late-season guests. Aparently the information was lost somewhere between the agent and the guest, at no fault to us. While the local eateries are not four star, they are basic roadside restaurants, with decent food and excellent service. This guest came too late in the season to do the things he wanted, did not take professional advice from the industry, and suffered for it. Any service he received from myself and my staff was absolutely professional and courteous, as our reputation relies on it. If any reader questions that, please take the time to look over the rest of our reviews. And please take our advise when coming early or late in the travel season to Denali, and come with realistic expectations.

These are great cabins for travelers just outside the Denali park area. It was depressing to drive through the park entrance and to see the Glitter Gulch touristy hotels, restaurants, and cheap stores. But, when we drove up to the Earthsong Lodge, just north of the entrance, we felt so lucky. It's an awesome, easy drive to get to the cabins and Henry's coffeehouse. All of the staff were extremely friendly and hospitable. Michelle gave us a great tour of the dog kennels and the boys in the coffeehouse made us some great meals. Be sure to have them pack you a lunch for your trip into the Denali park. The cabins are so cozy and individualized. They were extremely clean and well maintained. We loved the little walkways between the cabins and just the whole layout of the lodge!! I would highly recommend this place to any traveler up in this area.
