Owner description: If coming from Skagway your journey begins with a short walk from the pier where you'll board a high-speed ferry for a 45-minute cruise along North America's longest and deepest fjord to Haines. Enjoy spectacular views and informative commentary from your guide on the wildlife, geology, and beautiful landscape. Watch for whales along the way, as you glide past breathtaking glaciers and cascading waterfalls. Upon arrival in Haines, enjoy a tour of historic Fort Seward before heading to your paddling destination at Chilkoot Lake. This incredible location is home to all five species of Pacific salmon, numerous bald eagles, waterfowl and one of the highest concentrations of brown bears in southeast Alaska! You will be outfitted in the necessary equipment, receive a water-safety briefing, a thorough introduction to kayaking, and then start out onto the water. No previous experience is necessary and the expert guides will quickly make everyone at ease in the kayaks. The triple kayaks are very stable, spacious, and make excellent viewing platforms. Everyone will enjoy the excitement of kayaking in the midst of towering mountains and spectacular scenery. You may also be treated to outstanding bear viewing during the riverside drive to the lake and while paddling. Multiple spawning streams enter the lake and offer frequent bear and eagle sightings. You'll have 1.75 hours to explore by kayak. The location is chosen to provide the best kayaking and wildlife-viewing conditions and there is no better way to fully experience the beauty of Alaska!

“A mirror lake, waterfalls, bald eagles and kayaking, unforgettable memories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

We took this tour with our cruise ship, because we had been to Skagway before and wanted to see another town. They met us at the port and then we took the ferry for a nice ride to Haines. Our guides met us at the pier and we entered the vans for a drive to the lake we would kayak. We stopped along the way to see a lot of bald eagles resting on large rocks in a stream. We then continued on to our site. We were outfitted and given a kayaking lesson. We then headed out onto the lake. The lake was like a mirror and the reflections of the snow topped mountains on the water were beautiful! The lake was quiet and calm and peaceful. The guides were very helpful and were more than happy to take our picture on the lake w/ the mountains and waterfalls in the background and no one else. It was as if we had the lake to ourselves. At the end of the tour, they served us lunch and we enjoyed the wildlife around us. When we got home, everyone loved the beautiful pictures of the scenery. We were on vacation to get away and relax and this is one of the best places for that.

“Took care of us!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011

We had an unusally event happen to us as we went out on a day excursion with Alaska Mountain Guide Adventures. The kayaking was great even though it was raining and the tour guides were very friendly and welcoming; even stopping for bears for us eatting salmon in the stream! After the kayaking adventure, we couldn’t get back to our cruise ship and they made sure we were taken care of and stayed with us! Excellent staff, and I can’t say enough about Jonathan Wood the manager!

“Beautiful setting for an afternoon adventure!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2011

We chose this as one of the excursions from our cruise ship and didn't regret a minute of it. Chilkoot Lake is beautiful, with multiple waterfalls on one side and trees full of bald eagles on the other. Our guides were helpful, full of energy and info, and truly seemed to love their jobs. I'm ready to take another trip with them, even further off the beaten path next time. Thank you, Kyle, for the roll demo!
